Join Anthony and Frances as they play through a full game of the Beyond the Horizon board game.

Beyond the Horizon is a civilization game in which players compete to become the most influential society in history through exploration and expansion, development and production, research and technological advancement.

The game is played over a variable number of rounds until enough goals have been achieved to signal the end of the game. Along the way, players will earn points for exploring new lands, settling and building new cities, advancing technologically, and increasing their cultural and economic development. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Thanks for the playthru and review! As a kid, I spent many, many hours with Civ 2 and MOO 2. I don’t really do any pc gaming anymore, and I haven’t found a board game that captures those types of games as a whole. But I really do think that Beyond the Sun did a great job capturing the feel of those old-school tech trees. I did find the area majority portion of the game a bit lackluster (altho I’m not a big fan of area majority/control). In this game, Ii looks like they tried to improve that portion of the game, so I’m tempted to give this new game a try.

Should be renamed “For a dude and a dollar”😉

Thanks for a great playthrough. Now I’ve just got to get my copy from Essen.

Thanks for another great video. Appreciate the comparison with "Beyond the Sun" and the fact that you like both. I'm a big fan of BtS... two questions about the game.. .1) the strength of the settlers/soldiers seemed a bit awkward - did you think it worked effectively? 2) How would you compare this to Millennia - which is also a 'tech tree' game that you both really seemed to like?

Which do you prefer for 2 player games only, this or the Sun?

I own BtS, but the space theme always knocks a game down a partial point for me. The tile laying mechanism in this game makes me want to sell BtS now to get BtH. That part looks way more satisfying than going to the same physical location on the board for different systems in BtS.

BTS had a cool setting, they just made no effort to demonstrate it with the art as it looks like a blank spreadsheet. I understand why they rethemed it but it's a bit sad to see they've gone with the typical "serious looking men on a boring beige background" approach we've seen a billion times before already
