I was looking at the comments of the original song by Tori Kelly, and I saw this guy, JungKook, constantly being mentioned there. Curious as I was, I decided to check out his cover. With this, I learned that he's a popular K-Pop celebrity, and he did a cover of this English song. His singing is absolutely excellent for a foreign singer, don't get me wrong, but it kept me thinking why he would do this cover in the first place. It seems to me, a newcomer, that he absolutely believes in the message of the song, and that he wants to express his feelings in this own, unique way. I don't know many artists that put so much emotion into their music nowadays, and it amazes me how much effort he must have put into this. It's this display of passion and energy that makes me want to check out his works now, even though I don't know much in the way of K-Pop. Absolute respect to this man for embracing the music, and I hope that his other works are just as beautiful.

Edit: This comment I made three years ago is akin to a time capsule of my thoughts. Entering the K-Pop scene was a very meaningful experience for me, and I've learned a lot since then. I believed then and continue to believe now that music is meant to be a medium that transcends language and culture, and artists like Jungkook are beautiful representatives of that. I haven't followed much of the popular K-Pop groups since I posted this; I've listened to more piano-based jazz and Japanese rock. Nonetheless, K-Pop and the artists who captivated me will always have a place in my heart. As I write this edit, I find myself repeating the melancholy chords of "Paper Hearts" on my guitar; bygone emotions surfacing as I recall less complicated times. I respect all who shared their thoughts with me, and I dream of a day when we can all learn to love and share the music together.
