So not a word of explanation of the childish and condescending “staging” of the overture. Regietheater found a new low with that. As Chavaz doesn’t have the stones to explain himself, one can only conclude he lacks confidence in Rossini’s genius and the conventions of the 19th century theatre, and assumes the audience is an idiot, incapable of using the music to bring themselves into the story.
