I’m so glad to see others expressing the sentiment that they were astonished at the way all of this has unfolded. Gavin Ortlund is the last person I ever expected to be in the center of a controversy like this. The only way I’ve been able to make sense of it has been to come to the conclusion that many people are so blinded by their disagreement with Gavin on the climate change topic that they just refuse to actually see the way he’s been misrepresented. It’s like “Oh, he agrees with my political enemies, therefore my political allies couldn’t possibly be misrepresenting him.” Just seems like some people are more concerned with being in line with conservative values than with Christian values. This, coming from someone who has always been pretty conservative.

Thank you both for supporting Gavin in this. I am NOT by any means a Calvinist but I watch Gavin’s podcasts regularly. He is humble, godly, investigates his subjects very thoroughly, and he has integrity. To find he has been attacked so unjustly has upset me on his behalf despite the fact that he is being his usual gracious self about all this. Megan will be making a big mistake if she doesn’t correct what she’s said. Pride or does she truly believe what she says about what Gavin said?

I disagree with Gavin on his position of climate from his video 2 years ago, , but his position is presented humbly and does not reflect the way he is characterized by Megan. Her comments do not reflect his theology or ministry. There should be a public apology from her. I am a huge fan of Gavin and Daily Wire. Sometimes it’s sad when worlds collide. Megan should have a direct one on one conversation with Gavin.

First visit to your channel (thanks to the YouTube algorithim :). Excellent analysis of this controversy. I have been following Gavin Ortlund for a couple of years and at the core of his motivation is clearly a desire to encourage civil debate with intellectual humility as his guiding principal.

The problem to me seems that anyone who promotes "intellectual humility" and "nuanced discussion" on complex and controversial topics are open for attack from this new class of fundamentalist.

I disagree with Chris Date about a lot, but I agree with essentially everything he said about this particular topic. Megan needs to acknowledge these issues so her integrity can remain intact and her book with its overall accurate and very important premise can be a uniting position for Christians.

Thank you! I really appreciate the video. I was starting to worry I was the only one who saw the clear misrepresentation, almost feeling crazy since many other respectable Christian influencers couldn’t seem to see it.

The four undebatable examples are the exact three (I made the first two into one) I’ve used in discussing the issue, with the exact same concerns.

You’re right that if Megan doesn’t correct her false claims of Gavin Ortlund her book will not nearly have the impact it ought to have. Despite being conservative, I will say that I have little interest in reading her book after hearing her sloppy mischaracterizations. I alongside Gavin Ortlund believe in anthropogenic climate change. I also have two degrees in Environmental Science with doctoral research directly pertaining to it. I wouldn’t treat believing in anthropogenic climate change as a Christian necessity however, I do expect a *significant* amount of research and analysis to backup what would be rejecting an overwhelmingly undisputed understanding among those with actual advanced scientific training in it like myself. Not simply watching random YouTube documentaries and Tucker Carlson rants.

Thanks for doing the job that Dr Everett Piper, Jon Harris, "honest" youth pastor and so many others refused to do. They are clearly doing the bidding of the book publishers by defending the indefensible. No integrity.

Thx for the critical engagement. Seen far too many folks doubling down for Megan. Really shows a lack of discernment especially when Megan is basically referring to ortlund as a wolf in sheeps clothing and as a guru.

It also sounded like he was mainly speaking of the apathy and aversion to think about the topic from many conservatives. He left it open in respect to the outcome of the thinking.
