I've been watching you too long, Tech Deals. I said "it depends" in my mind at least two seconds before you actually said it. ;)

Me: “Do I need one SSD or two?”
Tech: the history of physical physical storage mediums and how SSD’s store data + file systems + why Window’s FS is outdated
Me: question....you spent 9 minutes on history you’re doing this to hit the 10 minute mark aren’t you?
Tech: oh right the questions, it depends, you can, or you can not, up to you. Ends video at 9:41
Me: glad I didn’t put money on that

I did notice on my ssd that it will turn red when I have a certain amount of space left & turn blue when out of the danger zone. So I think windows does a good job on determining when you have a healthy amount of space left. It’s usually close to 20% before turning red.

This may have been your most informative Byte size video yet. I learned a lot about SSD's. Great stuff. One thing, you might have addressed is that on many mobo's using a second M.2 drive cuts down on available sata ports. Btw, I prefer to use boot drives with just windows and have all programs and games on other drives - makes it really easy to migrate to new computers or reinstall windows (a more common need in the bad old days). Happy New Years. Cheers

You have explained complicated process the way that I could understand it easily. You are going to make a brilliant teacher in tech specially. Deeply appreciate about this.

I love those bits when Tech gives us the deep dive into "knowledge".
One may build on that and learn loads of things!

This was very interesting video! I love when you dive deep into details while also keeping it easy to understand. I would love to see video on comparison between Linux and Windows file system since you mentioned it. What would be situations where Linux file system benefits in practical case? Anyway thank you for great work!!

Excellent exploration of why capacity matters and why you need more than you need--right? Since SSDs became so affordable, my builds get a 1TB NVMe boot drive that also gets commonly used programs for which load speed matters. A secondary 1TB SATA SSD gets the rest, and I have an 18TB file server for bulk and archive storage. I've never had a 1TB SSD reach more than 60% full.

I absolutely agree with your assessments and the "it depends" clause.

I would like to add that I prefer to partition my OS drive, if I'm also using it for storage, to allot for refreshing/reinstalling my OS without having to transfer data to an external. I'll generally allocate about 200% of the OS installation size for typical unpacking processes during install, as well as additional room for patches and updates.

I recently had my main 1tb ssd FAIL, luckily I had a 2nd "game" ssd drive that was fine and a 3rd older reused SSD, so I was able to keep my 2tb game drive and then use the 3rd ssd as my new boot drive . It doesn't hurt to have backups to use in case of failure.
