In this lecture we discuss an optimization technique based on the GRG to design optimal stacking sequences so that structures can take the load applied. Not only one can come up with approaches for Material Selection but also approaches to design new materials. There are many codes such as Hypersizer that can optimize composites, but the specific purpose is here is to use Excel as an interactive tool to learn and build an intuition of optimal composite designs.
