I literally just purchased some charcoal pencils and haven't used them because I didn't know how to. Perfect ( but weird ) timing. Love your vids as always!

I bought my nephew a faber castelle charcoal kit and he hasn’t used it because he doesn’t understand charcoal. He is so incredibly talented at only 14 and I want him to live up to his full potential and try every medium out there. Even if I go bankrupt in the process. Lol

A diamond is nothing more then a piece of charcoal that handled pressure extremely well. Every charcoal drawing therefore has, from a materialistic perspective, the innate ability to become a diamond. That's probably why charcoal is one of my all time favorite mediums. One of the best mediums to start with for beginners as well. As a beginner you have to understand that art has to be one of a kind. It should be precious, extremely rare and unique... It should be like a diamond.
Great video Kirsty

Been away from doing charcoal drawings for such a long time (40 yrs). Looking forward to getting back into it since I’m now retired and more time on my hands. Thank you for your videos to help me to get my talent back to where It was so long ago.

I’ve been drawing with charcoal for years and never knew about that cool eraser pen! My world just changed, charcoal drawing wise.
Amazing work! 💕

When you were erasing to put in the highlight and the charcoal was beading up, I almost blew on my screen to get the eraser gunk away 😂😂😂

I love charcoal. You are very skilled. I like willow charcoal for the first layer, because it is so easy to lift. For definite dark shadows you can go in with soft compressed carcoal, that is more difficult to erase.

charcoal is probably my favourite medium for drawing. its so forgiving and creates the best b/w contrast

Hi! i just wanted to say that i absolutely love you channel and the content you make! I'm taking Fine Arts course on college and as a freshman, i was so excited to learn and improve my art, but one of the professors wasn't really telling us what to do to improve our drawings, he's an amazing artist, i won't deny that. But for people like us having troubles with our drawing, we were struggling to improve. But videos like yours here on YouTube truly helped me cope up with our subject. Thank you so much for sharing your talent!

Do you ever use charcoal as a subtractive medium rather than additive? I've had a lot of fun with creating dark backgrounds and using mostly erasers to create drawings. This was a great video, definitely makes me want to play more with this medium.

This is a cool tutorial . My Abuelita just found this old charcoal set of like 4 charcoal blocks basically unopened and I’m watching tutorials for tips.
