What do you think - DO you need a website?

One of the most important messages ever - and make sure all the other elements of your Internet ecosystem point to home base.

Well said. Yes, you need a website for your content. As you mentioned, you own it and it cannot be taken away. Too many people are listening to young influencers telling them that a website is dead. Wrong. Unless, the person is living under a rock, recent news of individuals losing their social media only validate the need for a website.

Good advise! Still your homestead depends on you paying your hosting fees, and paying yearly domain name renewals otherwise the landlord can tell you to go away. But still you need to set up camp in as many places as you can in order to have flexibility. Good day Ray!

Wholeheartedly agree. I've started getting clients who have built out a Facebook business page and hire me to take everything they built there and convert it into a website. Not easy as far as all the manual work converting it, but it definitely can be done and it's easier and cheaper than people might think. There's a lot of good info on your social media that can help you get a website started.

Thank you for your advice because I have invested in websites - I like being able to see how many people visit per day and month\ it encourages me the efforts worth it!

I totally agree that a business should have their own website, I also think the website should have a way to get information, either email, messenger... so you can continue the conversation with people. I also think its important to realize that it requires maintance, it's not a one and done.

Yes I do! In fact I been saying this for a long time. Nothing kills me more then businesses that only have a facebook page! It kept me from using them!

Wonderful advice Mr. Edwards. I use blogger for my website. It fits my needs and keeps costs down.

As long you know and remember that you are playing in someone else garden it's a business decision which way you choose
Like renting or buying a house. You have different freedoms and different responsibilities.
And yes the landlord can change the rules or the government or your bank.
By the way I claimed my little piece of land in the www last month and working on the construction site.

Great point! Your website is a great place to help sell yourself and act as a lead generator. Just like video, it duplicates you and works 24/7.

I don't see anything wrong with a website being simply a landing page (on your own hosting with your own domain) and sending all traffic to it to build an email list.

However, having all your content hosted on your own site is smart. And yes, people absolutely still read blogs, but only if they care about your content.

Yes, I totally agree that websites should be your fundamental presence on the web. From the comments below, it seems that some people are building their websites ON WordPress or Wix. Isn't that the same as building your business on Facebook or Instagram? I own several domains and I pay someone to host the sites. Personally, I used WordPress plugins for a new site a few years ago, but I'm not a fan of depending on them with all their updates. My original site was built with Dreamweaver, and although I'm rusty now, I still make my updates with that and upload the changes. I got in on a one-time buy-in on Convertri instead of the monthly LeadPages charges. As soon as I publish my book, I will start using it to drive people to the book site.

Timely Ray. I've been around long enough to see trends come and go. Currently having a heated (well sometimes) discussion with my team on what works now for us and yes to showcase for clients who are at different stages of their online presence. Is Wordpress too complicated for start-ups for example? Is Square better? What about a robust drag and drop "Builderall" site? Are there suggestions for the in-between stage as you start to scale your business, then you start to build out a Wordpress site with many plugins? To hire a Wordpress pro, the cost can go from a low of $2500-$10, 00k to start, then a high of $ 6 + figures. Would appreciate help with this as we are building a new membership site to teach and train midlife+ entrepreneurs who don't want to get tangled up with too much MARTECh, but a focus on their connections with real people ( the human to human movement). Untangling myself from all the MARTECH black hole, I want to help foster the "powered by an obsession about delighting Customers.". All about finding and keeping the ideal Customers and deepening the emotional bonds with them along the Customer Journey. Eagerly awaiting your input on this as there is confusion out here with the "Paradox of having too many choices, " a current reality!

Good advice Ray. A website presence is the foundation of digital marketing, too often built and neglected. (Guilty!)
