It's finally time to talk about one of the most renowned experiences of Vanilla World of Warcraft: Alterac Valley, as well as the other content that Patch 1.5: Battlegrounds had to offer.

AV had some of the most epic battles ever. I remember a down to the wire one on one fight between my Troll shadow priest and a gnome warlock that came down to wand strikes.

Alterac Valley really was an experience. The Alliance may have had the Stormpike Bowman and the bridge, but Drek'thar whirlwind was way more deadly than anything Vanndar would throw at you. I also really enjoyed the PvP that the battleground tunnels brought to each zone. I would group up with my other mage friends outside the AV tunnel, go invisible and run down to the end of the tunnel where all the horde players were sitting and AoE until we died to see how many horde players we could kill for those sweet sweet HKs.

Classic AV where you can log off to go to the school, come back and log into the same AV.

Remember how OP the ice lord was though, Ivus was a JOKE, so easy to kill, did nothing. The horde frost lord would often trundle upto the alliance bridge by itself and wreck everything.

The longest I remember being in... three times... was 2 days and 9 hours. It wouldn't work today i think, given how the age of the game and gaming in general has moved us from wonder to reward-driven motivations. But I recall it very fondly, it was great to play a hunter in it and try to take out other hunter/rogue gankers using tracking and anti-tracking cleverly. I think also, as simple as it was, the announcers in the battleground really helped hype it up, I still remember the tension building as you saw Vanndar or Drek'thar under attack, or even a tower or two about to fall and you'd scramble to save it. The best parts, other than the center, was easily the dynamic of the relief hut and the two main fortress towers.

Imo classic Alterac Valley is by far the best battleground I've ever been apart in. Very Immersive experience for a BG 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

You missed the flying event in AV! Free the Wing Commander from the enemy base, escort him back and unleash hell with flying units bombing the crap out of the enemy.

The original map was much larger, and bases had mines that needed disarmed. Most people didn't know about them and would constantly set them off, killing themselves and everyone around them.

This video brought back so many memories! I used to LOVE PvP when these came out. I also participated in the world PvP but AV was just too much fun.

They need to "remake" battlegrounds to make them like this again. I think even new retail players would enjoy at least ONE thing that wasn't set to an easy mode.
