Road to the Kodak Camera

In 1888, George Eastman revolutionized photography with his invention of dry, transparent, flexible photographic film on a roll, designed for his user-friendly Kodak camera. This innovation made photography accessible to amateurs, no longer limited to professionals. Eastman, founder of the Eastman Kodak Company, also bought patents from David Houston, a Scottish inventor, which contributed to Kodak’s success. The first Kodak camera, pre-loaded with 100 exposures, came with the slogan, "You press the button, we do the rest." Kodak later faced a major legal battle with Polaroid over instant photography patents, which ended Kodak's involvement in that market.
