What an incredible project to be a part of, and I'm so glad we can finally talk about it! We've worked together in the garden and kitchen so often, and collaborated on so many videos, it's about time we wrote a book together. Thank you for the opportunity to make the book I wish I'd had years ago!

As a data-loving nerd, what I love about this is the no-nonsense vibe, the numbers, the 'having a go' aspect, and most importantly still making all that a core element of the fun and intrigue of it all - which is a super important element indeed.

Self-sufficiency is getting more and more important these days. Great project to show how little space one really needs 🌱👍

Years ago, I tried a similar exercise on my balcony and window sills in London. I didn't grow anything like 580kg, but I did get up to 83kg, which didn't seem too bad from a small bit of concrete. I now grow in containers in a concrete front yard in the Newcastle upon Tyne - and you are inspiring me to measure the harvest again!

370 Kilos of food in 10 months is about right and comparable to what I get in my tiny intensively planted backyard garden. It IS TOTALLY doable!!

Congrats again Huw! I'm so pleased to see how well the secret garden has grown this year, and I'm looking forward to watching it develop over the next few years.

I absolutely love your garden !!! We do that as well :) we just started last season and we have thousands and thousands of pictures of our 100m2 vegetable garden (plants, bees, lady bugs, chores done...well, everything and anything is good enough for a picture. Just like you I also weigh everything and calculate how much we saved. We put that money aside and re-invest it in whatever is necessary in the garden, being that seeds/plants or tools, etc.
I always liked gardening. Used to do it in my balcony, but now it turned into a passion!
Greeting from the Netherlands :) Keep up the wonderful work !

This is my dream garden! Seriously-this garden is just perfect!😍❤️
I just got a small allotment plot in September and today I came home with a head of red cabbage (left from the previous plot holder), my first 2 turnips, few different type of lettuce, radishes and green onions for my salad. I am feeling proud of myself, seeing how pretty my broad beans, peas, onions and garlic are germinating. By the summer, I hope to taste again the billberries after 16 years not having any of them. Oh, and my own Saffron. I have huge hopes from this tiny piece of land and your videos inspiring me to continue what I am doing... so thank you.

I live in central Texas and I torture myself watching his videos lol. We could never grow food like this with the heat here in the summer. My fall garden is looking pretty good in the greenhouse but the caterpillars are eating my greens in the outside area. Still, I love Huw’s success and I will continue to torture myself turning green all the way through.

This brings hope to seniors who are looking for self-sufficiency and resilience. A manageable space is so important. Thanks and congratulations.

Love this Huw. Well done. And great concept for a book. I think quantifying it really helps to make it tangible to people. And as you say, there are definitely benefits of gardening in a small space, not least it's much easier to keep on top of and simply enjoy!

Huw this is exactly where we are at giving all the economic uncertainty out there, is to use a little space as possible to grow as much food as can be done, with as little effort as and inputs as we can get away with. Integrated, organized yet flexible, year-round production, maximum maintained fertility, large variety of crops, and of course grown organically based upon natural principles old and new. We are just pushing the edge as hard as we can to really come up with a consistent and repeatable system of production each year. There is much pioneer work to do and I am so excited for what's ahead and where things can go, and breaking new ground. Really love where you are going with this.

Square meter in Europe - Square foot garden in the US, ...it's a great concept and the timing couldn't be better for me as I'm developing a kitchen garden nearer the house this fall/winter for next spring. I've already pre-ordered the book! Thank you, Huw!

I love your garden! When I was a mother of eight children and my husband was off and gone, we survived off of our garden, and what I could hunt and fish for. We lived in the high desert plateau of central Utah, USA and our growing season was only 2 1/2 months long. I love to watch your example of self-sufficiency. It brings back such wonderful memories. Thank you again Huw for posting this. Best of luck with your book!!!

I’m not sure I can wait until next May for the book! I’d love to pore over it all winter during Oregon’s long, wet, gray days. I’ve been so inspired by your videos and other books. You’re like a very good friend who really GETS our passion for getting into the dirt! Many thanks for sharing your love of the garden with us. PS. I love that you love our Oregon sweet peas! Kiki

Really interesting. I downsized myself last year from a full size allotment and it has been so interesting to meet the challenges of making a smaller space as productive as possible. I will certainly be watching your journey with interest. Keep up the good work Huw. Kind regards. Gary

Awesome. Although I live in the Andes and we do not have "regular" seasons, a book like this could help organize my food forest and I am planning to change some raised beds. Will ask a friend to bring it from Spain to Peru in March.

Astonishing production for such a small space. Great job!

You are genuinely the most practical, realistic, down to earth, helpful Gardener on YouTube and beyond; you make veg gardening accessible to almost everyoneI I have just preordered the book and I am very excited to be able to utilise the information it holds.
Thank-you Huw 😁
