"special unthanks" should be a feature of every credits screen

The fact that it’s still being discussed almost 30 years later because the movie was so popular is icing on the cake.

I live for the level of pettiness that takes to end a movie with “btw fuck you I remember what you did school district”.

That’s some good old fashioned petty vengeance and I’m here for it.

I now believe all credits should have a “Fuck you!” section

As a resident of the City of Santa Rosa for almost 30 years, that tracks, SR high is a garbage fire and it's PTA is even worse. There's half a dozen better high schools in the area

I'd be pissed too. Time and money was wasted

wouldve been alright if they said no from the very beginning

Seems like the school didn't realize how much being featured in a movie like that would've helped them financially in the long term + the money they were already paid.

"They created a shooting schedule around the schools wishes" is a crazy quote out of context

That's literally my home town. They literally proposed to make a plaque about this incident but the school district complained and never went through with it. Who could have guessed 😔

They backed out because their school had a similar murder of a young girl named Polly in the nearby town. They stated that the incident was too close to film, too similar to what had happened.
Wes craven later regretted putting that in, but he was still angry at the time

I mean, honestly I get it. A film was shot at my high school as well (Remember the Titans) and it was super cool, although admittedly chaotic for a few weeks. But a big horror film like Scream would likely have people showing up at the school all the time to take photos and stuff… like Twilight did to Forks, WA.

Horror fans tend to be die hard, so I’m sure even 20 years later, there would still be hundred— if not thousands— of people a year flocking to take photos out front at the “Scream school”. As a parent, I can see why that might not be great for student safety. Still a bitch move to back out days before filming though. I don’t blame Wes Craven for being pissed.

This and Pixar's "Genuine Animation" sticker are the level of petty i aspire to

Hi, film student. Films tend to have EXTREMELY tight schedules, and EVERYTHING has to be carefully planned and articulated around local laws, location permissions, set design, even catering bc trying to work a hungry film crew is like trying to herd a pack of feral cats. Locations for projects of that size, ESPECIALLY before what we have now, are booked so very far in advance that a cancellation like that can very much be the death knell of a project.
That "no thanks" is VERY well deserved.

This is why you always sign contracts beforehand

My mother was attending Santa Rosa High School when the movie was being filmed, she wished they went through with it, but she thinks the "No Thanks" screen is just as cool of a story lol
