It's funny I don't really like Yamaha's but as soon as you put one in that colour scheme I get all nostalgic and want one.

I chose a ducati 848 recently to be the 12th and last bike in my speculative stable. I always wanted an 851 or 916 but missed the bottom of the depreciation curve on them. The 848 has the trellis frame single sided swing arm and underseat exhaust. All the Tamborini design cues in a bike that is worth very little currently and is an absolute hoot to ride. . Mine has 2k on it in 10 years and had never been ridden in the rain. Others in the collection include an early Randy Mamola bmw boxer cup replica, a 90''s triumph tiger 900 Hinkley's first attempt at an adventure bike (I recently was offered 7 times what I paid for it 3 years ago), and an r1150gsa long way round bike.

Congrats on the acquisition. I have a 2023 MT-09-SP. With respect to the side cover with the scratches; I have found that a fine point black sharpie works wonders for hiding those.

Strictly speaking, your investments are better in Vanguard or some index fund.
As for bikes that will hold their value, anything with an interesting engine (motorcycles are all about their engines) that's "easy to ride". I'm thinking Ducati 2V 1100 (Monster 1100, Hypermotard 1100, etc), Ducati testastretta 848/1098/1198, air-cooled BMW boxers (R NineT, etc), Husqvarna Nuda 900, ...

Buy the RD 350 LC fairing kit from velocity-moto, if you change your mind.

Just got my final bike a 1998 cbr900rr Fireblade, 2 owners, 15000 miles original pipe and tools etc and can be brought round to showroom. It's a project but I'm keeping it. Paid £2290 will spend a few hundred on it including tyres and it will be worth £3400 and upwards? I also have a appreciating Italian classic Vespa PX200E and yes I get a great deal of abuse from my biker pals but I had Lammy's and Vespa's in the 80's and they are a bloody solid investment. Anything Italian is a solid investment.

I own a sp2 from new! Standard with dry miles only. Absolutely stunned on the price of them now. Wish I'd bought two🤣

Changing the footrests is a pain as the swingarm spindle passes right through them.

Currently I have R1 4xv, XR650R, CBR1000RR 06 07, CBR 929, Honda SP2 vtr. All have increased in price... luckily, Currently looking for a Ducati 916.

CR250 500 are increasing, got a feeling ZX12R my go up, slowly increasing in value.

In addition to this I have been getting spares that are now not available. More money to be made on parts as these complete the puzzle.

Great bike, surprising to see you missed the engine case, you was there ages looking at it.

Just be careful you don't get the bug and end up buying more and more, it becomes an addiction. 👍

I told a mate to buy a Yamaha RD500LC years ago, it was mint £2600. Needless to say he didn’t believe me. So sent him one selling on eBay for £26000. He has never replied. 🤔🤣

Set a date in the future. Work back from that date 35 - 45 years. The date you have now - work out what are the "must have" bikes with teen . / twenties. THAT is what will go up in price when they are all having mid life crises, or "made it" financially and can splash out on re-living their "Yooff"

Would ther b any point in investing.if ther is no fuel for them?

I don't know. Didn't Yamaha make at least a few thousand units of this anniversary model? If you're banking on them being rare just because they're rare right now in the UK, once they're actually going to be sought after, what counts is the globally available number of them.

Why worry about the miles? Even a bike with 20, 000 miles is barely broken in, especially a Japanese bike. If you're thinking of keeping and barely riding it, miles are close to irrelevant, no?

To me the most valuable bikes will be low production garage queens like MV Agustas or Ducati Panigales. Maybe Aprilia Tuonos or RSVs because of their iconic V4 engine and sound and relatively low production number.
