Bohemian Rhapsody Deleted Scenes Explained

As a longtime fan of the band Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody was a film where I would have been happy with a much longer version. That’s because no matter what was included in the two hour and fourteen minute movie, the film would never be able to showcase all of the band's songs and stories. While Bohemian Rhapsody does a great job highlighting greatest hits, and shines a light on how the band came together and created some of their iconic songs, diehard fans like me will always want more.

So when I sat down with the cast (Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Joseph Mazzello, Ben Hardy, Allen Leech) and producer Graham King last week in London, one of the things I wanted to know about were the Bohemian Rhapsody deleted scenes. While occasionally people involved in a film are guarded about revealing what didn’t make the final cut, the Bohemian Rhapsody cast were pretty open about sharing what was left out.

As they mention in the player above, some of the things that were cut out of the film include:

The full Live Aid set.
More of Freddie Mercury when he was clubbing in NYC in the 80s.
How Freddie came up with Crazy Little Thing Called Love in the bathtub.
Longer scenes of Freddie and Mary in their apartment.
How Freddie came up with the Queen emblem for the band.
How John Deacon joined the band.
The band playing ’39 when on tour in Japan.

While it remains to be seen if these scenes will be included on the Bohemian Rhapsody Blu-ray, hopefully they will be so fans can see even more of the band's world on-screen.

I really hope they will release the Crazy Little Thing scene in the DVD!!

I hope they release the footage in Blu-ray. Also this should’ve followed the song’s history. I can see the director saying; “most movies are 2hrs long. No one’s gonna watch a 5hr movie about a band from the 70s”. Then the cast going “they will because it’s Queen”. Director “it’d have to be a movie of epic proportions like Gone With The Wind” or “Titanic“...”Bohemian Rhapsody” will never be that movie”. Cast: “What are you talking about? Queen is the very definition of epic”....

This was the greatest movie of the 21st Century, so far, and it could indeed be five hours and still fall short of what it should be.

I have the DVD, and it does feature the entire Live Aid performance, as a special feature. But I'm so tired of things being promised for Blu-Ray. I don't have Blu-Ray, and millions of people don't have Blu-Ray. These scenes should have gone on the DVD.

And we also need a "director's cut." A five-hour film, on DVD, is easy to handle. You can pause the DVD to go to the bathroom, make a sandwich, or go to bed and finish it tomorrow.

The ‘39 song scene should have been in the film, the song’s amazing! Very catchy and is very easy to dance to!

Did the theatrical version have a very short recreation of the iconic BoRhap pop video that didn't make it to the dvd?

Really sad to hear this. All the major outrages stories were cut. We gonna see a brave Disney type movie... nah

The production doesn't got what it takes to be *bold* and release it without the cuts, i mean its irony that the Bohemian Rhapsody song is 6 minute long and EMI guy said nobodies will listen to it because it was too long. I feel they rushed out the movie and it doesn't give that expectation, still was a great watch nevertheless. Cheers

I really want to see the deleted district scenes that they talk about at around 1:15, maybe it was too much for a PG 13 film but I really liked that scene and want more.
