Hi Everyone :)
Welcome back!

I get asked often: "Where did you get all this stuff?" My goal is to share the real magic of science and physics- and to this end I will update here (and in my store) suggestions on where to get some of these toys, kinetic art pieces, and scientific curiosities for yourself.
Purchasing items from the links on these pages will help support my IG page of science and wonder.

This video contains :
👉🏻 In or Out Illusion: this 3D printed sculpture incorporates the now famous Stubborn Arrow Illusion and features both a left and right handed version.

👉🏻 Infinity Mirror Tea-Light Candle: a candle holder with two sets of parallel partially mirrored panes of glass produce, through the physics of reflection and refraction, the illusion of multiple candle flames spanning out in two dimensions. A rotating platform helps access the full scope and geometry of the multiple reflections.

👉🏻 Polarizing Filter Black Wall Illusion: two sheets of polarizing film (with polarization axes oriented at 90 degrees to each other) create this illusion inside an acrylic tube. Physics magic!

👉🏻 Diffractive Optical Element: images produced by constructive and deconstructive interference of coherent laser light.

👉🏻 Matsuyama’s Paradox: dissect a large square into four equal quadrilaterals, rotate and reassemble- to find a small square is missing! Where did the additional area come from?

👉🏻 Caustic Projections from 3D Printed Optics: the intricate geometries of light due to refraction through various curved surfaces of transparent plastic.

👉🏻 Laser Lissajous: two rotating mirrors and a red laser project Lissajous figures on the wall.

👉🏻 Plasma Arc Lighter Physics: a rotating arc of plasma exceeds 1100 C (2000 F) on this flameless lighter. The breakdown voltage of air is about 3000 Volts per mm. Thus the circuit in the lighter must provide about 12,000 volts to produce this 4mm arc. The circuit involves a transformer with very fine wire windings, a transistor, and a powerful lithium-ion battery (USB rechargeable). The circuit produces high frequency current oscillations in the coils that in turn produce the needed high voltage- basically a Tesla coil for your pocket! However, I’m still working out the mechanism that produces the rotation of the arc.

👉🏻 Trapped 8-Ball: one more addition to my “impossible object”collection

👉🏻 Missing Edge Piece Puzzle: fun math involved in the design of this puzzle, which illustrates how the concept of area can challenge our intuitions.

👉🏻 360° Book: Earth and Moon by Yosuke Oono- whimsical art for the science and sci-fi enthusiast. Love the UFO abducting the cow!

👉🏻 Rolling Marble Sculpture: marbles perform gymnastics as potential energy of gravity is converted to kinetic energy.

For the 8 Ball in the block, my guess is that after the block was milled it was boiled/steamed to make it flexible enough to allow the ball in.

4:57 This is like the "infinite chocolate" trick where you cut a chocolate bar in a certain way and get an "extra" piece of chocolate every time you do it. Both final rectangles may look verry similar because of the geometry of the smaller pieces but the second final rectangle is smaller by exactly the area of the "extra" piece. The "extra" piece is so small in comperison that you hardly can see the difference with the naked eye. However, If you would measure the sides of both final rectangles you would find, that they are infact not the same size. It's a neat little illusion created by geometry.

Physics are ❤️ but also difficult. The best part of difficult things is the great feeling after understanding them.

For the last puzzle, the solution is centrifugal force. The disk is rotated vertically with the coin slot facing down. Thank you Cuby!!

The rolling marble sculpture is my favourite one. There’s a giant one at a shopping center, and I could just stand there and watch for hours and not be bored.

Matsuyama's Paradox, The piece on the top left got placed horizontaly and because of that, the puzzle's formation got changed.

My guess put your puzzle in vertical position then spin it and the coin will be outside the puzzle

10/10 for music. 10/10 for backround.10/10 for gadgets. Physics is ❤️

Maybe for the 8-ball, they forced a tree to grow around it to where it was completely inside the tree. Then they cut off that section of the tree where the 8-ball was. (after cutting down and opening up the tree) After that, they drilled the holes so you could see it.

Art of Play sells those fun Japanese books that has the cow being beamed up by the UFO. I have that little book and never noticed that...DUH!. Thanks for the perspicacity.

Amazing video as always. I really like the first one, the infinity mirror.

for the missing edge piece (5:29) I think it involves the Banach-Tarski Paradox. I know nothing of it, but VSauce does.

4:56 I heard about that “missing piece” puzzle from a similar problem with cutting a piece of chocolate.
