Not much happened at work this week so just a quick video talking about what this channel is and is not. Also talk about getting training.

The reason I watch your channel is to see and therefore join you on this journey that is looking after a Hospital's network. You are authentic and I love it. Keep up the good job. The only thing that pains me to watch you, is that it reminds me just how much my Hospital sucks .... But that's not your fault! LOL

Couldn't agree more about helpdesk being a great place to start. In my opinion (again.. my opinion), most of the very smart system/network/infosec guys i've worked with started out in helpdesk to learn the real world gotchas.. I also had a ccnp route/switch, ccna voice, ceh and sec+ (all of which i let lapse) because the cert is really just to get in the door (or maintain DISA requirements if you are/were military).. Real world experience trumps all and youtube/googling is your best friend when the oddballs that the fundamentals don't cover need to be solved. Your videos are real and I agree that most people starting out who think they will only be doing Network Engineering/Administration things are likely very wrong. They will most likely also support helpdesk with (some) tickets (even if tier 3 type escalations) or serve as the alternate for team/department/person which has NOTHING to do with routing/switching. Appreciate the videos and real world perspective.

Hey Scott... Sorry you felt you had to actually explain what your channel is and isn't for... It's very clear (at least to me) what your channel is all about... "Network Admin Life" sums it up exactly... no mention of tutorials or anything 'specialised'... Your channel name alone is enough to explain it. I love your videos - just no frills down to earth genuine days at the hospital and the variety of different stuff you end up doing. I'm sorry to hear you get negative comments - I've watched all your videos and the descriptions tell you what you're going to see and that IS what you see... nothing deceiving or incorrectly described. Just delete and block and think nothing more of it. Some folks thrive on hating and complaining and making others feel bad. I guess it's just the anonymity of the internet... You carry on doing your fantastic little videos Scott and ignore all that bad stuff. Myself and your many subscribers love your stuff - so forget all the trolls and haters! You have a fantastic weekend, my friend... hope you're not on call... as I am! 😞

Sorta got my job just like you did. Right place right time and started out as a network administrator. Moved to a new job same title and been there for 21 years. Been with this job title for 26 years. Got my MCSE but also let it lapse. My job requires me to be part of the union so there is no money benefit for me to pay to re-certify. And you are correct I Google lots to figure out my issues. Impossible to know it all in this field. Enjoy watching the content.

Thanks for the video. Do you think that your value decreases in the eyes of employers if you don't update your relevant certifications every 3 to 5 years?

My philosophy is you don’t need a piece of paper to say you can do a/the job. I’ve met some people that have all the certifications under the sun but simply have no idea how to do the work and lack people skills.

I’ve realized that anyone in the position of some sort of influence (in this case the person making the video) would always find themselves having a few people who think the influencer owes them something and it is annoying to say the least...
