The "Apple in a Box" theory is a thought experiment that was discussed in the Netflix documentary "A Trip to Infinity". The theory suggests that if an apple was left in a closed box for an infinite amount of time, its fundamental particles would theoretically go through every possible state that they could.

1. An apple is placed in a closed box. In theory, nothing can come out or in the box.
2. Over time, the apple decays, and after more time, the apple has become dust.
3. Years later, the remaining chemicals get very hot, and a long time later, the particles start to nuclear fuse together.
4. Eventually, the box contains just ion nuclei and photons, and then billions of years later, the neutrons decay into protons and fundamental particles.
5. After a very, very long time, all particles in the apple have experienced all possible states.
6. Then, those states have to be revisited. At some point, therefore, the apple reappears in its original state.
This thought experiment is related to the concept of Poincaré recurrence, a mathematical theorem that states that certain systems will, after a sufficiently long but finite time, return to a state very close to the initial state.
However, it's important to note that this is a theoretical concept and doesn't necessarily reflect reality. For example, the second law of thermodynamics, which states that the total entropy of an isolated system can never decrease over time, would seem to prevent the apple from spontaneously reforming1. Furthermore, the idea that a single apple could produce the conditions necessary for nuclear fusion is highly speculative.
So, while the "Apple in a Box" theory is a fascinating thought experiment, it's not a scientific theory in the sense that it's supported by empirical evidence or widely accepted by the scientific community.

How does this make sense according to the second law of thermodynamics entropy always has to increase. Entropy is basically how spread out heat is in a closed system. This is why fires dissipate etc. Eventually any closed system will reach maximum entropy meaning that all the heat will be evenly spread out making any work and anything significant happen. A good analogy would be if you were to make a fire in your kitchen to cook something. Eventually the fire will dissipate but that is not because the energy is gone it has just spread out and made the room temperature higher. Assume that this kitchen is a closed system like this box. This rule is why the universe will eventually have heat death in which all heat will be evenly spread out over the entire universe and nothing can happen and this is what will happen in this box.

Basically the apple just keeps coming back sonce it's been isolated form any other forces other than the one inside and the possible nuclear fusion from the atoms
