For anyone wondering. youtube has a similar thing. its youtube premium. you can skip ads but the creators get paid ad rev as if you watched the ads.

It isn't advertisers fault that I'm difficult to advertise to, however the last time I watched an advertisement for a product I wanted and didn't already own was when I was very young. The fact that they want me to give them money so they don't waste their money advertising to me is a hilarious concept to me.

Correction (aka my experience) if your country doesn’t have ads you still get “ads” at the moment. Either an advertisement for turbo or an animated background with the text “commercial break in progress” (then an advertisement banner for turbo under it). It’s weird because it happens on some channels and not others, so many it has to do with the parameters streamers set for ads by the streamer(if they have set any)

Thor, honestly, the way you set the "ads" in your stream are a breath of fresh air. I'm so greatful.
I despise ads with every cell of my body and soul. if there is a way to avoid them, I do it, because honestly, there was never a moment in my life when I watched the ad and said "you know what, I want this product". And don't get me started on malicious ads that have been popping around quite a lot in recent years.
I've been gifted my first ever membership to this channel. Because of how awesome you and your content is, I will actually consider renewing it. Keep doing great work (especially with Blockgame, because I liked it even though I failed miserably there).

Hey, I don't know how many of you are aware of this, but Twitch (probably) doesn't choose the ad for the streamer. Most ads on the internet are being auctioned in real time. Twitch sends the information about the type of viewer to some auction server. Then different companies respond with a cpm they are willing to pay, based on individual algorithms. Highest cpm wins. The whole thing takes less than 400ms.
When you see an ad for some product you have visited before, Twitch (or whatever website is selling ad space) has no clue. The advertiser does. They know you, so they bid very high cpm and win the auction.

when I've been accepted into the affiliate program. I ran 3min ads to drop pre-rolls, when I get a chance, I suggest my channel viewers and my stream team to push for turbo. each time I talk about ads to my peers, I always get scuffed at. its wild to me that hardly anyone is doing this.

The main point I think is because you pause during ads. Most people do not. They view it as a subscriber perk. If you want to watch me play the game without ads, you should subscribe which I can understand considering it is the streamer's job and you want to support them. But the fact that twitch turbo supports the streamer. I was not aware of that. It's kind of like YouTube, Red or premium as it's called now. I just don't like the fact that they raised the price of turbo like a couple days before they announced the ad changes

I had no idea that running ads would eliminate pre-rolls. The difference pre-rolls makes is crazy! It can all be so confusing, I wish it was easier to navigate these sort of rules

I've been aware of all this stuff in the past since i try to manage my ads to not annoy my viewers but I think I'm due to change my settings again after listening to this. Thanks Thor, you really promoted turbo and the 3 min ads better than twitch could

As a small streamer. Someone who averages 5-10 viewers. I feel it would be best to just never join the affiliate program. Having to explain why I run 3mins of ads constantly ruins the mood. People just leave. The average viewer does not care. They won't sit through 3mins of ads even if I do pause. If I go down to the minimum 30secs per hour no new viewers come in because of the pre rolls. The best thing to do is leave the affiliate program until you are averaging 20-30+ viewers

Turbo being basically the cost of 2 subs is great. If you watch more than 2 streamers consistently on twitch and want to support them without paying extra or watching ads, turbo is the best option in my opinion. Especially because if you want to support a specific streamer more, you can gift subs or bits
