THANK YOU SO MUCH! Crystal clear explanation. Best video on YouTube for explaining the concept of linear approximation so simply. I wish you were my math teacher!

That first example, finding the sqrt of 26 was really great. It was informative, useful, and most importantly it would help someone gain  an intuitive understanding of what's really happening.

When you explained the theory at the end it made the formula so much more clear to me. Thanks a lot!

Thank you so much for this video. I'm taking calculus at UCLA. Neither my professor nor my TA explained this as clearly as you have. Thanks!!

Thanks a lot Derek, you really showed why the equation is the way it is and knowing how it works is very helpful!

Wow, this is great. I have an exam coming up and I was stressing about this concept, but the explanation including that rise=slope*run was SUPER helpful. Thank you so much!!

if you go to purple math and type in meaning of slope in the search, in the first paragraph, it shows you another way to read the slope that isnt really taught in school

love this video! freaking awesome.

That's correct. Going up 1 and 10 to the right is the same ratio as going up 1/10 and 1 to the right. The ratio of rise to run is 1 to 10 in each case.

Great example! I would just add for further motivation that linearization is also used before taking a Laplace transform where linear equations must be used to tune Controllers over a small operating range.
