Klim Kostin really stepped up in game 6.

Nurse made that clear off Kempe one handed leveraging his stick against kempes leg...that was a nice play that stuck out to me at the time...

I thought David’s analysis of Leon playing a complete 200 foot game was spot on. He’s dialed in. Love the big German.
Leon was playing 2 way tonight.

Statistics for Edmonton Oilers at LA Kings April 29st, 2023
Game 6 Oilers 5, LA 4
Oilers win first round series 4 games to 2

Kostin 2 Goals, 1 Secondary Assist (on Game winner and how he wasn't a star eludes me)
McDavid 1 Goal, 1 Primary Assist (PP)
Draisaitl 1 Goal (PP)
Yamamoto 1 Goal (Game Winner, Series Winner), 1 Primary Assist
Bouchard 1 Primary Assist, 1 Secondary Assist (PP)
Desharnais 2 Secondary Assists
McLeod 2 Primary Assists (he was moving and WORKING all night)
Ekholm 1 Secondary Assist

Skinner 40 / 44 .909 Save %age (he had a broken stick gimme to LA yet still pulled out over a 900 save %age)

Three Stars (Sportsnet): Yamamoto, Draisaitl, Danault

Kings
Shots on Goal 26 44

Faceoffs Won 33 25
Power Play 1/2 2/3
Giveaways 10 3
Takeaways 6 6
Blocked Shots 18 11

Player TOI PP TOI: PK

Faceoffs Won Lost Percent
Bjugstad 12 11 52.2
McDavid 11 5 68.8
Draisaitl 4 4 50.0
McLeod 4 1 80.0
Ryan 1 1 50.0
Nuge 1 3 25.0

Sixth and final game of the series. We had a lot happen in this one including a goalie broken stick (on Skinner of course because I mean it's the Oilers) that leads to a tying goal (easy one). Yamamoto getting the game winner. Klim Kostin with 2 goals playing under 9 minutes of time. Broberg playing under 4 minutes (complete waste). LA with a shortie after a breakdown during the second PP the Oilers got in the game (they scored on the first one so they were 50% on the PP tonight which actually brings their PP level in the playoffs DOWN, yeah, I know, something is kind of wrong when 50% on the PP isn't as good as you normally do). We were really winning the faceoffs. The LA selection of three stars is pretty much a crock. I'm sorry, yes, Leon had a fantastic game playing over 27 minutes (Connor did too) but come on, Klim Kostin with 2 goals and an assist (and that assist was on the game / series winner) and he gets no love from LA (probably as they would have won the game if he wasn't playing). A lot less hits by the Oilers in this one. Couple of days in LA to rest up then on to Vegas to begin round two. Take care all.

The pass by Skinner was not risky, it was a sound decision to pass it to the D-man rather than force a face-off.

Korpisalo didn’t realize that Yamo’s shot went in the net. He threw his blocker at it and thought it went wide. He actually moves to his left to cover the post thinking that the puck is coming out the other side. He didn’t know until he saw his teammate’s reaction.

Non call on the Kane high stick and non call on Skinner getting hit in the trapazoid. After tonight LA is the second least penalized team of all 16 playoff entries. Off to Vegas with Vegas being the least penalized team after 82 games this season.

When RN-H, Kane, and Hymen start scoring watch out.

I was thinking the same thing as David about Nurse. I was thinking, You’re going way too deep. Just shoot it in! But it worked out. I guess as long as your teammates cover for you…. It’s all good. It’s a team game!

Really fun series, LA gave Edmonton everything they could handle. Lots of momentum shifts, and a great comeback in game 4. If I had one wish I hope we can clean up the give aways, we were a bit sloppy at times tonight in our end.. Rest up, enjoy the win, and get ready for Vegas. Proud of you Oil Country!

Bring on the Knights! Who only finished first because of the Bettman point system.
Using the IIHF standing point system (3 for Reg. time W, 2 for extra time win, 1 for extra time loss, 0 for reg. time loss), we'd have some important changes in the playoff bracket and home ice advantage (pls point out any errors, I’m not an AI):
EDM: 45-5-9-23 > 154 pts, Conference leaders, 2nd overall
VGK: 38-13-9-22 > 149
DAL: 39-8-14-21 > 147, Central leader
COL: 36-15-7-24 > 145
LAK: 37-10-10-25 > 141
BOS: 54-11-5-12 > 189
TOR: 42-8-11-21 > 153, third overall
CAR: 39-13-9-21 > 152
NJD: 39-13-8-22 > 151
NYR: 37-10-13-22 > 144
About their finish to the season, VGK had 5 of their last 10 games go into extra time. In effect, the NHL awards bonus points to both teams that don't get it done in 60. Anyways, another worthy opponent coming up.

Well Oilers in 6 is no surprise to me, but I didn't expect that the worst game they played would be the series winner. After 3 Oiler Broken Sticks, I said "Wow I hate those carbine fiber Sticks", saying they break at the worst times and cost games. Then another Oil broken stick, then the Skinner Incident. Wow Lol. What Garbage. Amazing Game! But I think Oilers were very fortunate to have won it. Kostin was just huge, as were the usual suspects, but badly outshot with the ice tilted in your direction for large sections of the game doesn't often work out well. Good news is we all know they can play a far better game then that. And they will need to for Vegas, or whoever is next. Fantastic Entertainment for sure! 🚮

The legacy of MacTavish still remains strong. Draisaitl, Nuge, and I believe Nurse? All MacT picks...

Maybe try McLeod with Nuge and Hymes.
Despite his lack of impression on 5v5 so far, Nuge is one of the 3 core players on that PP.

Kostin was a BEAST tonight... 3 points +3 and he played under 9 mins.
SO happy for Yamo to get the SERIES Winning goal... he was so snake bitten all series and just couldn't finish his Good chances... until tonight!
