Peer Support Certification

This actually infuriates me.

If you need a certification for what you’re doing, you’re no longer a peer.

The first amendment affirms the right of free association.

This is an excuse to create another business to take advantage of people who need help, to get around 42 CFR Part 2 so there is a list of people running AA meetings… because that’s where this goes.

Unless you are billing insurance and holding yourself out as a professional medical provider (which has become a very loose term), it is against everything this nation stands for to require a certification to be a peer, and if you are certified and you are operating under a license, it is a disgrace to call yourself a “peer” because you now are asserting authority over someone else’s condition.

A peer by definition is on the same level and actively going through the same things.

There was a time in this country when NA meetings would have police officers sitting in there gathering intelligence.

It’s still illegal for felons to associate in some jurisdictions.

This is a way to make a list of people who have or have had SUD, and to turn the anonymous support group into a reportable event and bill the public tab for it.

Wow. Here in Tennessee you can become a cprs supervisor without one minute of cprs training or experience. Good to see other states are more reasonable in their requirements.

Took CRSS and missed it by 13 points. This was my first time taking the exam in Illinois. I am currently in 15 week training with Governor State University. I feel confident that I will pass the exam again.

I'm wondering how long a person has to be in counseling or therapy before taking training courses and programs to be a certified peer counselor.

Hello I would like to start my own peer support non profit organization here in Bakersfield California. It will be a short 6 week program that will provide peer support until individual is linked with services or have obtained their 1st therapy appointment. Is the certification you are offering required in this circumstance or is it optional? Would love to hear back from you soon. Thank you!
