I AM OLD SCHOOL. SO FOR ME IF I HAD TO PICK TODAY WHAT WOULD I CHOOSE. I AM ASKED THIS QUESTION FROM THE FOLLWERS QUITE OFTEN. SO IN THIS VIDEO I WILL ANSWER THAT QUESTION. THIS WILL TIE IN WITH THE CAMP COOKING SERIES. THE US.ARMY CANTEEN ISA GREAT WELL TESTED AND PROVEN BIT OF WOODSCRAFT / BUSHCRAFT KIT. AS A COOK SET AS WELL AS A WATER CARRY SET IT HAS BEEN PROVEN FOR MANY MANY YRS.IS THERE A BETTER CHOICE FOR THE CAMPER HIKER. THE PATHFINDER STAINLESS STEEL COOK SET IS A LARGER SET WITH MANY GOOD ADVANTAGES OVER THE OLD ARMY CANTEEN. THE WOODSTOVE THAT ATTACHES TO THE PATHFINDER AND THE HEAVY DUTY LID MAKE COOKING IN THE CAMP A FAST EASY CHOICE.

Hi, I enjoy your videos, but I do have to disagree on one point. As a former soldier, I’d deploy for training for 4-6 weeks at a time into the woods… we never had time or equipment to clean out the army plastic canteens, but they never were getting funky. Sure, if time and supply allowed, we would rinse them out with fresh water, but cleaning? That only happened after return to the rear, so after 4-6 weeks of daily use. Never did I have a funky canteen in that use scenario.

Just a tip, when drinking from a canteen or any water container, Do nt put your lips or mouth onit. hold the nozzle a bit above your mouth and pour the water in your mouth, This wikll eliminate Backwash from your lips and mouth. Keeps water cleaner. Love your videos, Never stop.

FYI: On canteens or you thermos for cleaning. Carry a few Polident tablets with you. use some luke warm water to fill it then drop a couple tablets in it and let sit overnight and rinse in the morning. It will clean even coffee stains and leaves a little bit of a minty flavor that actually helps the taste of the water in it.

I started out thinking, "okay, Blackie, it is a water vessel what is there to say?" by the time we got just a couple of minutes in, I realized I needed to hold my horses and learn. Thank you, sir.

I use 2 L Coke bottles as my water storage canteens. Sawyer squeeze for my filter & a titanium cup for cooking.

Man I am blessed. Hunting, hiking, camping.. growing up in the North west we never carried water. Fast moving streams were everywhere and that is all we did. If we were thirsty we would stop and drink. My dad got fancy one year and had a collapsible cup ....to make it easy ....but that was as close to water "prep" I ever knew

I use American Vietnam era canteen and cover, post Vietnam era American and Australian canteens and covers. Along with these I have Auscam covers that feature a pocket for a old style hexamine stove. But in my 49 years of camping, I’ve never seen a canteen cup stove or lid. I wrap electrical tape around my flat handle cup handle. Greetings from Australia and thanks for all the useful information.

The GI molle canteen pouch fits the Pathfinder canteen with cup and stove. It doesn't have insulation but it does have the two handy pockets.

Lolol...was gonna tell you what Glen said about the denture cleaner does a good job, but get the smokers type and to me it does better taking away any after taste.
Thanks Blackie for sharing, y'all take care and have a blessed week.👍👍👍👍👍🕊💜🙏

I find i like the old GI style plastic or metal and the flat handle cup. The flat handle cup has a slot in it so you can insert a bayonet tip in it and have an extended length handle ...also it will string onto the GI mess kit along with the GI utensils so you can dunk the hold kit and caboodle into a garbage can full of hot soapy water swish it around, move down to the next can full of clean water to rinse and you clean your whole set up with a couple of dunkings....very efficient when you got a line of busy GI's waiting to clean their dinner mess.

Never knew Nalgene made a GI style canteen! I've always used the standard round 1 liter Nalgenes. Good to know. Will shop for one (and you are spot one about the hot water bottle trick, have been doing that for years!)

Blackie, What I have used for many years to keep my canteens clean are either efferdent or polident tabs they do a good job of cleaning, just rinse well before

This was a great video to go with my morning coffee. Can't overlook the "simple" things which can often be one of the most important

These American canteens is so similar to what the Swedish military uses today. So cool to see!

I had a pathfinder set and had trouble with a leaking lid. I have gone back to my Nalgene canteen and USGI canteen cup and stove, but I also carry a Snow Peak titanium Sierra cup which weighs under a gram. Snow peak make beautiful titanium stuff, the Sierra cup is like jewelry. They can also be engraved if you are giving a gift to someone special.

I have several of the old plastic military canteens left over from my time in the Corps. Another drawback to them is they taste like old stale plastic. So I just ordered 4 of the Nalgene type because of what you said in another video about using boiling water in them. Thanks.

That’s a really good review of canteens. I’ve got an old Boy Scout style round canteen my wife got me. I rarely use it because it’s heavy and cumbersome and wraps over my shoulder, adding weight on one shoulder. But, I love that the Pathfinder canteens are so versatile and well manufactured. I like their stuff. Good video, and don’t worry about the aircraft noises, you did good!
