So, what makes good waves to surf? The easy answer is storms. Do all storms make good waves? Well, no. Today, we're going to look at the example of Indonesia where I live. Next, we're going to look at a map that shows wind and storms. Okay, the green parts are wind, and the red parts are storms. Now, let's zoom out and take a look at this storm all the way down by Antarctica. This is the storm that actually makes really good waves for Indonesia. Those waves travel 6,000 to 8,000 kilometers to get to Lombok. So, wind from storms needs to travel very long distances. This is what actually creates really, really nice waves to surf. So, to recap, storms over wind over open ocean make great waves to surf. Okay, so once again, fun waves come from storms, wind, nothing in the way, and it reaching land.
