Sampling Signals Part 2 (3/10) - Anti-Aliasing Filters

We end our discussion of time-limited signals by discussing anti-aliasing filters. These filters are used in practice to remove signal spectral content above fs/2 before sampling. This prevents the signal frequencies above fs/2 from aliasing down and creating distortion. While the anti-aliasing filter does remove signal content (i.e. any frequencies above fs/2 are actually removed), the sampling rate fs can usually be controlled to limit the amount of frequency content that is removed based on the specific application or requirements.
