'The Sfakian Screen' local photo exhibition

"Photography, Social Imagination and the Digital" contains footage from the "Sfakian Screen" exhibition at the Askyfou Venue in Sfakia, Crete. The exhibition features images taken by residents of Sfakia which introduces a significant break in the visual history of the region whereby representations came from powerful outsiders with cameras (folklorists, photographers, etc.).

The show was curated by anthropologist Konstantinos Kalantzis with the support of the ERC project PhotoDemos: Citizens of Photography based at UCL.

Υλικό από την έκθεση φωτογραφίας "Η Σφακιανή Οθόνη" στο Ασκύφου, Σφακίων (2018). H έκθεση βασιζόταν σε εικόνες που τράβηξαν κάτοικοι των Σφακίων με τις μηχανές και τα κινητά τους, κάτι που έρχεται σε ρήξη με την ιστορική συνθήκη κατά την οποία η αναπαράσταση της περιοχής ήταν αποκλειστικά στα χέρια ταξιδιωτών και άλλων εμπειρογνωμώνων. Την έκθεση επιμελήθηκε ο ανθρωπολόγος Κωνσταντίνος Καλαντζής με την στήριξη του ερευνητικού προγράμματος ERC PhotoDemos: Citizens of Photography με έδρα το τμήμα ανθρωπολογίας στο πανεπιστήμιο UCL.
