Harry Potter is one of the most successful franchises ever. The seven Harry Potter novels, including Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone for some), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows create the amazing tale of not only a boy, but a hero, finding out just exactly who he is.
My Harry Potter story is one that I have heard from many people my age. The Harry Potter books had already created some buzz around the world by the time I came to the party. I had just finished college, and even some friends had recommended the series, but I was not having it. It seemed like a kid's book and I had better things to do with my time. It was right before I had moved to LA, and I had two months left left before I made the trip out to my new home.
My mother had borrowed the first Harry Potter book from the library on a recommendation and finished it way before the book was supposed to be due back, so she inquired if I would like to read it. My friends had all tried to convince me before, and she didn't exactly have an easy time. She said she would at least keep the book until the due date, just in case, because, even at that time, it was a fairly hot commodity. She was currently waiting for the other three books that had been published already.
It took two or three days, but one morning I decided I would read the first chapter just to have some argument fodder for why there was no reason that I should read the book just because everyone else was.
I finished it that night.
Never stopped reading.
I finished the first three books in three days, a madman, just like everyone else.
The series is even more especially dear to me, as the first film was released on the very day that I flew to Los Angeles. It was the first movie I saw here, taking it in at the famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre with my mom and family.
Harry Potter in the interim has amassed several other books, billions of dollars at the box office, an enormous video game series, a theme park, etc.
As I write this, we are less than two weeks away from the Midnight Premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the movie where "It all Ends", as promised. I was there for some of the midnight book parties, and you better believe I will be there as one of the fanboys as it all goes down.
It's also interesting to note that today, July 5, 2011, marks Goldentusk's 5 year Anniversary on YouTube, having released my first of what would become many Goldentusk theme song parodies, Superman Theme Song, the day after Independence Day, shortly before Superman Returns was released.
Just like I gave Harry Potter a chance and continued watching, I am so fortunate and lucky to have had such great fans the past five years. I thank you for your continued support and only hope that I continue to get better.
Thanks
Andy
