How absolutely wonderful to have such an original presentation of the Book of Psalms. I know how you will treasure it. I can’t begin to guess how many hours or months went into producing such a beautiful creation.

An absolutely beautiful book, releivo binding is typically Victorian in style, Medieval books were completely hand made from bindings, jewels, metalwork and the handwritten pages. Each era has their own beauty and spirituality, for me I prefer the earlier books which are very rare (and usually held by libraries and secured with chains ), and made with love and dedication, and yes faith. The Victorians were almost hypocritical in their faith. I think yhe work of William Morris and his friends were most like the early book creators, and deserve house (home) room. But definitely a fantastic find.

Ancient craftsmanship that is considered not efficient or cost effective now. You'll never get another chance. Clearly, this bishop had a library with who knows how many potentially unopened preserved books. Of rare unique qualities. Hmm, is it possible to track down this sale?

This makes me think of the hugely expensive music book produced by the Rev. Harding in Anthony Trollope’s The Warden. Was that idea inspired by this psalter?
