Meanwhile at Disney: "Corridor Crew was able to build this in a cave! With a box of scraps!"

The eyes ABSOLUTELY sold it. I thought the lip movement didn't exactly match at times, but the eyes, for me, made up for it.

What sells it are the eyes moving and moving naturally. If you take the eye movements and the lighting and add it to the Disney shot, it would pretty much look like they used footage from Return of the Jedi.

The deepfake Luke on the latest Book of Boba Fett episode is basically indistinguishable from real life.

It's weird because it LOOKS better but it somehow seems more like a video game CG model now.

It looks more “alive” in this version, but looks more like a video game cinematic.

From a VFX artist, both versions definitely have their strong points - the original has more of a photorealism feel despite it's flaws as outlined by many. The Corridor's version definitely dynamic and full of emotion - a valiant attempt! Great job all around!

I mean Mark's STILL HERE!

so much humanity added in the moment when he said 'he wants your permission' definitely huge improvement imo

Just to let everyone know Mark Hamill did see this and tweeted
"I think this video is the perfect way to display your abilities & further your careers in the industry. Your talent speaks for itself, so when you send it out, maybe remove the boast that it's "better" than others, especially when you send it to Disney. All the best, mh #WellDone" and "Hi Dean- I watched the video & thought you did a great job! I was very impressed with your commitment to the role & your willingness to try every wig they offered you. You instinctively understood that the key to Luke is getting his hair just right. #Bravo "

It definitely has more emotion and nicer lighting, but it does feel like it has a lot more fake elements to it now.
However, I'll take more emotion over complete photo realism any day!

Don't get me wrong. i am beyond happy with what we got in the mandalorian. Except for one little detail that you guys added. Luke's Warmth. He seemed very staunch and heroic but a bit detached from the situation in the mandalorian. but in the few seconds of your animation and performance. The little smile made me think "Thats the Luke skywalker I grew up with in the Movies, Books and Games."
That little smile he gives said it all about him.

I like how “warm” he looks. Like the smile he gives when he takes down his hood as tho to say “easy guys, everything’s okay” is just so Luke to me. The original just looks so blank.

I love how the spoiler alert is after they show Luke´s face.

Take everything you guys did right and combine it with Disney’s time, budget, and resources and it would’ve been perfect.

With Disney’s resources, and wallet, I wholeheartedly believe this team could make a more convincing Luke, I think they did a phenomenal job all things considered. Much more dynamic.

2 things that made it more believable:
1. The eyes have more life in them
2. The body language is not as rigid as it was in the original

That smile before he says "come little one" makes me think of young luke smiling because he remembers yoda

the bit where he said "I am" was the best part. Had so much more empathy than the original cut. The smile and nod was lovely too. Its amazing what people are doing with what I imagine are less resources than Disney and totally killing it. congratulations
