I'm still working on new stuff! But I figured I should upload the compiled behind-the-scenes and old animatics I had made for WLCW. (Honestly I was heavily debating whether to upload these, but decided to just bite the bullet for posterity and archival reasons)
More WLCW in the works...
If for some reason you haven't already, full film is available here

You can check out the original WW1 animatic that spun off into WLCW here: (to be frank, this stuff took up most of my life from 2021-22 but it didn't go much anywhere bc of my lack of experience =p)

If you want to support me, I have a Patreon or Ko-Fi here:
If you want to keep up w/ more of my art/doodles, I usually post them on Twitter & Pixiv:

0:00 Intro/Compositing & TVPaint Junk
1:40 Animation/Shot Breakdown
2:42 Old Animatics/Storyboards (WW1) stuff
2:58 First Story Animatic (December)
4:55 Mostly Final Story Animatic (February)
10:00 Unused Scenes (Stasi Sequence & More)
11:40 Extended Moon Ending

My three favorite three pieces of Cold War media: The spy who came in from the cold, red storm rising, and this.

There's something oddly endearing about the story of two depressed and bored as hell rival operatives finding joy and purpose in their efforts to kill each other.

Hey y'all! I was debating whether or not I even wanted to post these rough sketches and junk that I scrounged from my old harddrives, but figured i'll just dump these works here for posterity and to get sort of a glimpse as to how creatively WLCW came about. Although to be frank, there's alot about the creative process that I wrote up as part of a proper script that would just be impossible to fit into a 12 minute video and without taking like a week to edit guh.

So i'll just summarize:

The storyboard animatic at 2:50 is what came next, but there was still no reason to get attached to the characters if it was just the car chase, everything from December to January was then also scrapped as the version I hated and the synth music wasn't working for me either. I just completely stopped taking things seriously by February as I thought of the most ridiculous possible ways to segue from shot to shot and think up of fun things to animate inspired by the media that got me into animation the first place lol =p

So that's the version you get for most of this video, there were actually scenes and sequences entirely made in like a week as additions to the animatic like the CIA Miami boat chase, inspired by a comment by my old story prof Bianca lol. If there is a central thesis to WLCW, well I say there's two, it's to just like drawing and have fun animating, and also that from limitations, comes creativity, as you're really just forced to come up with solutions to problems, like the bichromatic colour palette and comic book graphic stylistic choices were all things that were not intended from the start, but just made sense as I realized my limitations to creating a full-fledged film.

Well that took too long, and frankly it's a bit silly to have a 12-15minute podcast about a 4 minute film, but that's what I wanted to say, because I think with my lack of experience then, it was a huge learning experience that I just needed to learn how to do this stuff by doing it myself, and with that there's quite alot left undone that I wanted to do with WLCW, that hopefully will come to fruition in the upcoming months =)

The extended ending is toutching; Naomi choosing to return to Earth to reclaim her meaning. Thank you for showing it to us.

i love when people making art pay attention to historically accurate details. you didn't have to have the British person in your alt animation pulling the trigger for the 1 frame, but not only did you, you also made them use their middle finger which is accurate to fast firing techniques of the time

The extended Moon ending finally clears up something that bogging my mind as to why Naomi suddenly drop down onto post-apo Earth! Nice.

Also the alternate 'Valerie summoned/Batman signal' seems to make little bit more sense as in the final version I was perplexed as to what happened to her fishnet stockings during the underground concert scene. 😅

Great archive. Hoping to see more in the future.

"idk dude I wasted 2 years at college doing nothing lmao"

Damn dude, as current Federal Aviation Administration Commercial pilot I gotta say: SAME. EVEN FOR US. I just had to get my license to start my career and I was not even required to have a f*ing diploma

Oh hey! Love that you got the Fernsehturm in the background of East Berlin skyline in Valerie's helicopter sniper scene. Really goes to show attention to detail!
