If you're okay with companies collecting your information, that's fine. If you're not, there are steps you can take to lessen the risk.

Erratum: Alan was wrong about Ghostery. It was revealed that Ghostery actively tracks their users web activity and sells this data to third party ad agencies. So I wouldn't recommend using it. Ublok origin is way better and doesn't spy on you.

I had two browser extensions that blocked trackers yet they still were capable of tracking me, I know this because I received spam mail that was in a way related to what I looked for prior.
Either there were still trackers in place or they weren't actually trackers but rather my behavior was sold regardless of me rejecting privacy policies. You can click reject all before entering youtube but I don't think that does much. I know because of the tracker blockers that when entering a site and am presented with the privacy policy that before you even click something like "accept" the trackers are already active and when you click "reject" nothing changes, the trackers are there. And even if you pay for a product I don't believe that you won't still be the product, they'll still harvest everything they can. There is no law that says you can gather and sell all of the users information unless they paid for your product.

And to all of the people talking about using browser plug-in security, Snowdon has said that none of that will help. They are able to plant a bug in your devices that will identify your internet connection.

Honestly you didn't answer the question well. If someone gets rich because he knows what underwear I wear, I am not jealous enough to say, "oh you will use that info and get rich" and then not give that info. I don't like the idea that i be punished for my past mistakes that were not mistakes then. That's why I care about privacy.
