The lava has to be deep enough to slow your fall but I actually believed that it could reduce fall damage entirely like water. I only found out recently that this wasn't true but it seems like it should be in vanilla Minecraft...

The easiest way is to have a fire resistance potion and jump into enough layers of lava and try not hit the bottom.

Pretty sure if you place the lava on the side of a block a bit above the ground it can slow ur fall but I’m too lazy to test for sure

If the lava is 3 or more blocks tall, it will completely negate fall damage but if it is only one block tall it wont do anything and you actually can reduce fall damage if it is directly above the ground

Actually, lava doesnt necessarily reduce damage, however, if placed on a side of the block, let it flow, it can stop you from dying, but you need water nearby or smth to atop the burning

Lava has almost the same damage distribution as the old Minecraft's water. One block of water would reduce the damage taken from falling, but not from too high, like, you wouldn't survive a 100 blocks fall with a water bucket clutch. The only way water would negate damage is from falling in a water pool.

Since it gives instant fire damage, it covers its absorbant effect that is not really much. But with a fire resistance you will feel the slight difference.

Lava actually reduces fall damage, you just die from the fire, if you drink a Fire Resistance potion it will not kill you (don't know how high, cause it kills you at certain height)

You CAN clutch with lava but you have to use the damage of the lava itself, if you place it against a wall at the perfect timing you can clutch with it.❤
(For the people who don’t know: if you take damage from something it takes like a few milliseconds to end but in those milliseconds you can’t take damage ❤❤)

If you really needed to, you could place the lava on the side of a pillar and jump in it after it flows down

If you have a pillar of lava and you slightly touch it about 4-5 blocks from the ground and get out immediately, that can work (i am pretty sure at least)

You jave to hit at least 2 full blocks of lava, you ethier have to have perfect reaction speed and place 2 buckets, or find a lava revine, jump into the edge of 2 blocks of lava, and move out before you go too deep.
Or use fire resistance
Keep in mind I'm talking about no armour (i did this accidentally at the start of a survival world and just kept testing it) so with armour, especially netherite, it will be significantly easier.

Lava just puts you in water-like physics and doesn't actually prevent fall damage

I always thought if u fall past lava sideways (in the nether) u can take fire damage in the same tick at u land meaning u take that damage instead of fall damage.

If you hit a lava pillar right before taking fall damage it does the lava damage instead of the fall damage

Tmk, it reduces damage by about 60% which means if you have fire resistance and are falling from low enough you will survive.

If you get lava damage exactly when you touch the ground, you won't take any fall damage since the game think you only get lava damage. Idk if it still work

Lava can break your fall only by slowing you down. If you land in deep enough lava, the higher density around you will slow your fall down. However one block of lava is usually not enough as during free fall you can reach rather high velocities. As long as you don't hit the bottom of the lava / the floor underneath it, it will break your fall.

You should be able to place it on the side of the wall, I think u just placed it to high. You need to place very near the bottom.
