Twitter takes down HQ's blue bird for 'X' rebrand

Elon Musk’s attempt to strip the Twitter sign from the company’s San Francisco headquarters has been stopped by police after the billionaire failed to get the proper city permits.

Workers were hired to remove the word Twitter and the company’s blue bird logo from a sign outside the company’s offices after Mr Musk changed the social network’s name to X.

A worker removed the @ symbol and the letters t, w, i, t and t from one half of the giant sign on Monday.

However, work was stopped after police were called to the scene for “a possible unpermitted street closure”. The shutdown left just the letters “er” and the blue bird logo remaining.

The sign, which is almost three floors high with a clock on the bottom, has been an icon of the company’s headquarters since it occupied the building in 2012.

Police arrived after receiving a complaint from the building’s management, who said they had not been told about the change.

I can't imagine spending $44B on one of the biggest brands and then throwing away the brand. It's madness. This sort of thing isn't going to save the planet or get humans to Mars. It's an unnecessary distraction from what actually matters.

I thought that the new logo was pretty weird. I thought that the iconic bird logo just didn't render properly whenever I go on the website.

Very sad to see Twitter “bite the dust” - Why didn’t Mr Musk just start a new app and leave Twitter as it was? I still remember when Twitter started and all the fuss that was made about it back then.
It’s always something it seems - can’t leave things well enough alone. I will miss that little 💙💙 blue bird - X just doesn’t cut it for me personally.

Twitter literally got banned in Indonesia for a few hours because the name "X" is loosely associated with yknow what and Indonesia has one of the toughest laws of that thing aside from Arab countries, good job Elon 💀
