Watch This Before Buying an NB Mazda Miata 1998-2005

The NB Miata is actually arguably more reliable then the NA Mazda Miata due to the NA Miata Crankshaft issue. The NB Miata can and will last upwards to 300k miles, but with that said, there may be issues that can pop up during the journey to 300k.
In hopes to better educate you about your ride or your purchase, I made this video.

There is no guarantee that all these issues will happen, but they are all just note worthy!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope everyone stays safe and smart!
I make these videos strictly for people who are in the market to buy an NB Miata or people who currently owns one and want to better educate themselves about their ride. Either way, not everyone will experience these issues and I'm not saying you 100% will. But, they are all possibilities.

I wish there would be less nb miata videos so that the value can stay affordable

Great video and very informative. Thanks very much for posting.

One thing to add, another place to check for rust on a MK2 MX5 is the chassis rails. The chassis rails are a serious rust area on the MK2 due to having a double skin in order to meet new crash safety regulations. The double skin collects moisture and the chassis rails rust from the inside out. The chassis rail rust is not a problem on the MK1 due to having a single skin.

My NBFL (bought new in 2003) is still going strong after 21 years and 129, 000km (80, 000 miles). It’s been serviced every 10, 000 miles since new, and absolutely everything still works perfectly. And being an Australian, no snow = no salt = no rust.

Valve cover gasket definitely takes more than 10 minutes.

The drive shaft on my 2001 SE went bad around 170k miles but I replaced it with one from flyin miata for around $250

super reliable is completely dependent on how the car has been driven. I am a 4th owner NA with 160k miles and it’s been through 3 engines so far. It’s lived a tough but fun life

I'm picking up a 99 mb with 96k miles, everything looked good rust wise, there is a rattle on the short shifter at idle (when the clutch isn't depressed, once you put the clutch in it goes away) praying it's nothing big 🙏

I'm 6'2 and I fit alright in my brother's miata. They are pretty cool cars

You might want to have someone voice over your video. Very difficult to discern what you are saying. Oh Ya, every problem you pointed out never happened on my 2001 NB. Currently running with 246, 000 km., with only general maintenance.

Your voice is fine my friend don’t listen to these people criticizing you for that

Love these titles. That’s what they were designed for. It’s a Miata, of course it’s reliable.

Anybody daily theirs in the winter? Wondering if I should get a cheap civic beater or slap snow tires on my Miata

miatas often leak oil from where they connect the diff to the transition

I’ve been wanting some type of roadster for so long and would love an ND but I’d need to save a lot more. But I see a NB (2004) automatic with 116k miles for $9500. Too much?
