1999 was so great. The Matrix was incredible. Blew my mind.

Everyone played apples to apples. That game got old real fast.

Here we are in 2023 and I picked up a used copy of Lost Cities for $10. My wife and I played it probably 15 times this weekend. What a fun game.

I was lucky to have had advance preview tickets for The Matrix. Pretty much the most epic moment of my life.

A great year, the year my son was born. One of the few games I had before getting into the hobby was Apples To Apples. I still have it, and my son still loves it. I’m enjoying these videos. Thank you.

4 of 5 still in my cupboard and I sold Schottentotten 2.
Great year. My future wife and me moved to Berlin and started our own Household ❤

love playing battle line medieval edition (very similar and successor to schotten totten) and used to play lost cities a lot.

Happy to see Apples to Apples still getting some love. It's a fun game.

Interesting list. I never owned Alpha Centauri, and I don't remember why. It's perfect for me, and I love 4X games on PC.

Oh yes... Alpha Centauri was such a cool game. I feel like it is sometimes a bit forgotten, but I still have great memories of it. Heck, I'd play it again now! heh

I'd have listed:

* Tikal - Still a great game of exploration
* Vinci - The game that became Small World when a fantasy theme was added
* Battle Cry - The first of the Richard Borg card-driven games that became the Commands & Colors franchise.
* Starfarers of Catan - Perhaps my favorite Catan game for more than 2 players. (Starship Catan is my favorite Catan game.)

Ra is so good. I'm terrible at it, but it's a lot of fun.

The Matrix is head and shoulders above every other movie from 1999.

I guessed The Matrix!! My favorite of that year as well

My list would have Tikal and Roads&Boats added. Ra and Lost Cities would have made the list as well.

Great series. Thanks for introducing me to excellent previously "hot new" games. Are you going to switch from Nirvana to The Offspring for the 2000's ?

Schotten Totten is great! I'm trying to design a challenge card based solo mode (providing an opponent without complex AI logic administration)

Apples to Apples and Matrix were unique when they came out. My opinion has changed a little over time, and that's because I feel that there are too many copycats.

The big question is - At what year does it go up to 10 great games?

I like the change from last time where you forced yourself to 10 'best games but not neccessarily great'.

Times Up relies too much on pop-culture for me. I still like Apples to Apples, though I've certainly cooled on it as other games (like Dixit) have evolved the formula. Watch The Matrix for the first time a few years ago and agree that it holds up well.
