How to install Windows 10 virtual machine in TrueNAS Core with VirtIO Drivers *EASY*

How to install Windows 10 in a virtual machine with TrueNAS. TrueNAS, previously FreeNAS, has the ability to run virtual machines as a hypervisor. I need a few virtual machines and one of which is to be windows.

00:00 - intro
00:10 - download the virtio drivers iso for windows
00:16 - create virtual machine
01:02 - mount installation media - windows iso
01:40 - add second cd-rom for drivers iso
02:28 - boot to begin the install using vnc
03:12 - choosing custom install windows only
03:25 - import virtio storage driver from mounted iso
03:50 - choose the disk and install windows 10
04:00 - note about vnc disconnecting
04:25 - rebooting and speed up install
05:00 - locate and install virtio network drivers
05:20 - navigate to the control panel and network & sharing center
05:31 - navigate to the device center & install the driver
06:18 - verify network connectivity
06:55 - that's it, thanks for watching!

Everything worked, except it would boot back to the windows installer even after installing it. Tried restarting a few times and I deleted the cd drive that was in the devices list already and then it worked. Needed to restart once more though but I saw progress. But don't delete the device you added, as you need another driver from that cd drive later for the internet connection. Thanks a bunch for making this!! It worked beautifully

Thank you for the great video. I was finally able to get my Windows VM working on truenas scale. I had a bit of a difference experience in that i download the drivers. Installed them as a cd rom on the vm and when the vm booted the network was already working. There still were some errors for other pci device drivers. So i ran the installer in the driver packaging and it seemed to clear up all of those issues as well. Now to continue on and try to finish my blue iris setup!

hi love the vid but im getting a UEFI error, shell then comes up i type exit and them the boot menu is unreadable like the gfx card is on its way out but its a vm lol

Did you use the newest version of virtio drivers? Or did you use the 0.125? Becauce when i try to install the virtio drivers for storage the VNC looses connection instantly and it doesnt connect back up

This is a fantastic guide thank you. However I have a question. I update the driver, however I am not getting a connection. I get an error on troubleshooting diagnosis. 'Your computer appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource (DNS Server) is not responding'. Any idea what I have done wrong?
