We break down the action from pre-flop to river, discussing optimal bet sizing, hand ranges, and strategic adjustments based on board textures. This hand offers valuable hand reading insights into evaluating ranges, understanding when to go for thin value, and recognizing when to shift between betting and checking strategies based on your opponent’s potential holdings.

Barts reaction at the reveal made my day

Excellent analysis by Bart, and yes, get value on turn.

I have no earthly idea why caller thinks UTG can’t have any high suited hearts or AX of hearts combos, after V calls his preflop 3-bet.

By not continuing to bet on the turn the caller blunders hard. Get value from heart draws. Get value from lower pocket pairs. Get value from pair+straight draws.

Interesting how this hand contrasts with Johnathan Littles video yesterday about playing JJ in low stakes poker.
Did you know that he put that up yesterday and intentionally try to do that? If so it was a nice move as it had a synergistic effect I think.

I'm pretty much positive that the turn is a pure bet large with a hand like JJ. I'm pretty sure flop is also a large bet, and if you split sizes, you could also mix in small betting with hands like KK/AA. You just want to give overpairs like 88-TT automatic calls, and knock out most overcards that could make turns or rivers tricky. I'm pretty sure JJ is right on the cusp of being too weak to slow-play, and also too strong to take a passive line.

Busted flush draw and 4-liner to a straight neither player should have is just a mandatory river bet. TT could easily call like $200+ on the river.

I would check back river too. Sure, you can get value from 99 or TT, but villain could also have QQ, AA, 33, 44, 87s...
He SHOULDN'T have most of those but he could. it's 2/5. I've seen too much random shit to target such a small range.

So with all that info and the pot at 470, what would you bet here to get TT to call? 175ish?

Right off the bat - if you're going to take super small sizing on flops - be ready to get yourself into difficult spots.
LMAO! So now hero checks back this turn??
Bart saved the day on the river by making some nice analysis. It is not useable for me though, I'd never play this hand like this hero did, so I'm never in this river spot.

I think you get $500 turn targeting the hands you beat

He knows that you don't have sets or a straight...once you know that it opens up what he will believe has showdown value.

so much missed value in this hand. When I do those tiny flop bets its to try and instigate a raise if I dont get it Im getting that vlaue on the turn with a pot sized bet.

Not trying to arm chair QB but it doesn’t make any sense how he played this… like if you bet like that pre flop follow it with a large bet on the flop. if you are scared then you either pick up the pot or if he call you have a good idea where you are at

I think QQ would’ve played the same way.

Hey Bart, what do you think of an over bet of like $550-600 on this river based on how it was played? I came to a similar conclusion as you did on the possible hands he could have and feel like two pair, sets, straights, and busted flush draws bet out on the river. The villain doesn’t really have any over pairs in their range. I feel like over betting on the river would look extremely suspect to top pair or pocket 10’s/9’s/8’s. Any worse hands are folding to a small/medium bet anyway. Is my thought a bad play?

Just so you know the caller Not Australian he’s from New Zealand

How big would you have bet on turn here Bart? Always hate the idea of betting a bunch to "protect" but just have the draws call and hit. Not sure how many villains are folding FD's or SD's on turn to a 1/2 to 3/4 pot bet at 2/5 levels.
