WHAT ARE CHAPPED LIPS:
Let’s start by making sure we’re all on the same page about what chapped lips actually are. When we use the term chapped lips, we are referring to cracked, dry lips, which can have some redness and be quite painful.

Interestingly, the skin on your lips does not have the ability to prevent itself from drying out. That's because this skin does not have any oil glands. What that means in real terms is that it can't produce its own moisturiser.

There are so many potential causes of chapped lips out there, from allergic reactions, to yeast infections; even playing the clarinet! Cold dry climates can be very unkind to the skin on the lips, and that’s something that we tend to be mindful of in wintertime, however, you may be surprised to hear that exposure to the sun can also cause chapped lips.

When our lips feel dry, we have a tendency to lick them to try and make them feel hydrated and moisturised - however that can cause the lips to dry even more. To add to this, there is some evidence that suggests that chemicals in our saliva can irritate the lips.

WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION:
If your chapped lips are not responding to anything that you have tried, are lasting more than a few weeks, or if you are finding that they are severely cracked, sore and maybe even bleeding, then it’s time to seek medical attention. A doctor can explore whether there is an underlying reason for your chapped lips, for example, a nutritional deficiency, a skin condition like eczema, or an infection.

The worse thing make my lips sore is nerves! I don’t even know I’ve been licking them until they’re so sore. I often used Blisteze, but then I came across Vaseline and within about 15 minutes, they’re so much better. Thanks so very much indeed Abraham, as always you’re a gem…awesome too of course 😊

With clean hands I like to wet my lips with water. Once the excess water has been air dried off, I put some of the petroleum jelly to lock in the extra moisture I've just added to my skin. I don't wait for my lips to dry out fully though, just enough to remove the excess.
