How to Upload Projects on GitHub using GitHub Desktop

Upload an existing project to GitHub using GitHub Desktop:

✨Step 1: Download and Install GitHub Desktop

Download GitHub Desktop:
Go to the GitHub Desktop website and download the appropriate version for your operating system.
Install GitHub Desktop by following the installation instructions.

✨Step 2: Sign in to GitHub

Open GitHub Desktop:
Launch the GitHub Desktop application.
Sign in to your GitHub account. If you don’t have an account, you can create one during this step.

✨Step 3: Prepare Your Project

Open Your Project Folder:
Make sure your existing project is saved in a local directory on your computer.
Review your project files to ensure everything is ready to be uploaded.

✨Step 4: Add the Project to GitHub Desktop

Add Existing Repository:
In GitHub Desktop, go to the top menu and click File Add Local Repository....
In the window that appears, click Choose... and select the folder containing your existing project.
Once selected, click Add Repository.

✨Step 5: Create a New Repository on GitHub

Create a New Repository:
Click the + icon in the top right corner and select New repository.
Fill in the details for your repository:
Repository name: Give your repository a name.
Description: Optionally, add a description.
Public/Private: Choose the visibility of your repository.
Do NOT initialize the repository with a README, .gitignore, or license.
Click Create repository.

✨Step 6: Link Your Local Project to the GitHub Repository

Copy the Repository URL:
After creating the repository, you’ll see some commands under "…or push an existing repository from the command line."
Set the Remote Repository in GitHub Desktop:
Go back to GitHub Desktop.
In the menu bar, click Repository Repository Settings....
Under the Remote tab, click Add to add a remote.
In the Remote Name, type origin.
Paste the copied repository URL into the URL field.
Click Save.

✨Step 7: Commit Your Changes

Commit the Project Files:
In GitHub Desktop, you’ll see all the files in your project listed as changes.
Write a commit message describing the files you are adding, such as “Initial commit.”
Click the Commit to main button.

✨Step 8: Push the Project to GitHub

Push to GitHub:
After committing, click the Push origin button at the top of GitHub Desktop.
This will upload your project to the GitHub repository you created.

✨Step 9: Verify the Upload

Check on GitHub:
Verify that all the project files have been uploaded.
