The age-old question of renting vs buying in Japan, in Tokyo… I am giving you a few pointers to solve it for your special case so that you can decide once and for all! We talk about the opportunity cost, the cost of ownership, using the 4.14% rule and property tax, maintenance, mortgage and interest rate and, of course, compare with rent.
And I am standing on the shoulders of giants who have done it before me (Humphrey Yang and Ben Felix). Tell me if you find it useful.
Here is the spreadsheet I showed in the video and that you can use for free:

I bought a condo at 23, and a house 20 years later. My next goal is to buy a small 2nd home for my business so that I don't have to pay office rent.
I was shocked to see 1.5 hour tours of the Yokohama Bay offered for 1, 600 yen, that is unheard of here. I got so used to the cheaper food and drink prices in Japan, that it was equally stunned to see the inflated prices in the Honolulu airport! That is one thing I like about Japan, prices only seem to go up about 50% at their airport, tourists' destinations, or Disney Parks.

Ownership is always better, but if can take a mortgage! Which is extremely hard to do in Japan for foreigners 😮
