MatPat was the reason I got into FNAF; I’d likely wouldn’t have gotten into it so soon if it weren’t for his FNAF 2 theory. That was the video that showed me that there was more to this series than just “cheap jumpscares”. While I may not always agree with his theories (even early on, I didn’t believe the whole “Phone Guy = Purple Guy” debacle), I’ll always have him to thank for getting me into it.

I have to disagree, he's gotten people to research and theorize since 2011.

As a person who grew up watching game theory, but hasn’t been watching much as of recent, but it still made me sad. A bittersweet ending. But I’m still happy for him. Can’t wait to see how these channels evolve into on the future. Bye mat pat.

MatPat is probably the guy (and the channel) that basically encouraged my way of thinking. I was always someone who overthink things and connect the dots to make absurd conclusions that somehow makes sense and honestly back then, people don't humour you for this. But bcs of matpat, these things are more commonplace too, especially since he catapulted the format of video essays and stuff like that. Fun curiosities you learn from. Honestly it probably makes sense now why game theory and Sherlock are the two prominent thing of my teen years lol.

I think you're gonna enjoy the new hosts. They all have the same energy as MatPat in some ways. And since I have been following all the channels, I do enjoy it when they narrate an episode, or make an appearance on GTLive. I think you'll definitely enjoy the style theory episodes especially the Killer Heels.

He only has one kid really, Skip is his and Steph's cat also known as CatPat and his son Ollie is about 8 or so I think now. Whom is as you can see is one of the biggest reason for stepping away. For the entirety of his son's life so far he's been pretty work focused, I can only imagine how that can wear you down when you want to be a good parent. It sucks to see him go but he couldn't have picked a better time to do so, we Theorists are entering a new era friends, lets give the team as much support as we can!

I was a Game Theory subscriber since forever, I remember the really old school times, when Chrono Trigger was god and Frogger was an Australian tree frog. I'm sad man

So many people have compared this video and Mat in general to the likes of Mr. Rogers and Steve from Blue's Clues, whenever they left their respective projects and had their farewells to their viewers. Matt seems to have affected an entire generation of content viewers in a way similar to those two people, as him leaving has definitely been felt all across the platform. He has the largest outpoor of support, goodbyes, reactions, and people just generally grieving his retirement out of any other content creator I have seen on this platform. And rightly so. On the plus side, seeing as you're still relatively new to him, you have a whole decade's backlog of MatPat content to that will still be new to you, so you could probably pretend he's still uploading for a while.

Side note, I do hope to one day be able to work for Theorist. Not just because Matt and Steph would be my bosses, though that would be a huge perk. It'll probably never happen, but I would love to.

This was a rough video. I haven’t watched MatPat in a VERY long time but hearing him start to pack it in was heart wrenching. I’m so happy we’ve had him though. What a legend he is. I’m a theorizer myself and love overthinking everything. And I’m just thrilled to see how many he’s affected. I wish him the best. Long live the legend.

In a way, I'm sort of glad to see him gone because of the high-note stuff he mentioned. The torment of fighting constantly for relevancy as it inevitably decreases. It can drive people mad. Even in the face of success. This was probably the best way to do this.
