Running is one of the fundamentals of fitness in my opinion. Cheap & accessible, I’ve laced up & cracked runs all over the world on my travels. However it can also be damaging. Without good muscular strength, general physical preparedness & general physical fitness it’s ill advised. For me, it has been a limited affair the past several years, owing to a long term injury. Running on hard surfaces or with poor footwear (lack of cushioning or arch support) is a no no.
Running is used as a benchmark fitness standard from the uniformed services right through to even PADI scuba diving. Its importance & usefulness is based on the most primal instincts like flight or fight.
The flow effect it gets from running though is arguably most important. I never run with headphones in. I just focus on being present, my breathing & my form. Getting out on my 1’s & 2’s stomping is fantastic. Talking of, I’m still buzzing from Tunisia & running a half marathon with @russcook aka the #hardestgeezer for the completion of the mission of running the entire length of Africa! A historic moment of British exploration, adventure & stoicism.
