Toyota hybrids also have been designed without drive belts. Actually, there's no reason really why even non hybrids could be designed without drive belts either. Put a beefy starter-generator in between the motor and the gearbox for engine start-stop and just make the water and oil pumps directly driven by the crank or by electric pumps. Bam. No need for stupid squeaky belts or serpentine repairs. If people complain about having to drop the transmission to replace the starter-generator, then it could just be direct drive mounted to the front of the engine.
