How Strong is Aoba? (Itachi's Best Sensei)

Aoba is one of those Naruto background characters with a cool design that doesn't do much. However, we see Aoba vs Kakuzu and Aoba vs Kisame and he does some pretty impressive stuff. Aoba uses crows just like Itachi, meaning that he taught this jutsu to Itachi when he was still in the Leaf Village.

War Arc Kabuto was also shook when he saw Aoba was in the Turtle Island when he attacked with Deidara. Aoba is also capable of infiltrating the mind of an enemy to collect intel, he almost found out about Obito's identity before it was reveales by seeing Kisame's memories.

The reason Aoba wears shades all the time is because he gave his eyes to Itachi back in the day.

I thought this would be clickbait filler but, Aoba actually sounds pretty cool and pretty useful to have on your side in a fight. I like how versatile he seems to be, he seems useful in almost any situation.

I really like these videos about lesser known shinobi who we see in the background all the time but don't get much screentime. It is one of my favorite parts of the series that Kishimoto keeps continuity with these characters, and they appear randomly from time to time. Genma and Aoba both seem like real powerful shinobi, perfect for the Hidden leaf. Obviously they aren't a Minato or a Hashirama, but I think they still have a cool and important part of the Hidden Leaf. These two specifically seem like they are just a little below Kakashi level (with Kakashi's main edge being how versatile he is).

I think the reasoning is that Aoba can effectively hinder an enemy’s movements and ability to cast ninjutsu, then paralyze that hindered opponent, then interrogate that opponent. He’s effectively a one man army at intel gathering. For the sake of Kabuto, just Aoba alone being there meant he could suppress, paralyze, and interrogate the release edo tensei signs from Kabuto, a feat that an edo tensei itachi had to lose an eye for with an extremely high rank jutsu. Also, keep in mind that his paralyze jutsu in itself is OP as fuck; he can basically do a long range total body gentle fist versus people with low effort and with no counters (sameheda aside).

Aoba is pretty up there for characters with memorable faces and forgettable names. I always saw him as Diet Itachi. He does the crow and fireball thing.

You should talk about how kishi brilliantly wrote the leaf village veterans to be heroes in our eyes and demons to the other villages. I feel most stories don't go into how other groups see the heroes as they end up as cartoon villains

Naruto we see aoba kakashi might guy etc all seen as single man armies or trigger PTSD from those who faced them. It's honestly great world building

People have to remember that Shinobi levels are not for decoration, being a Tokubetsu Jounin is basically being a Chuunin Plus which is definitely not someone weak. If you are weak, you will never move up in class.

I'll never forget how Aoba was the one spoiling the info about Itachi & Kisame being in the Leaf Village to Sasuke during Part 1. When Sasuke was visiting Kakashi's hospital room which is filled with Guy, Kurenai, & Asuma (after they were done fighting Itachi & Kisame) & trying to keep the fact that Itachi is in the Leaf Village a secret from Sasuke, only to have Aoba suddenly barging in & informing everybody in the room that Itachi is in the Leaf. Granted, it was an accident, but it lead to chain of events leading to Sasuke's defection from the Leaf. I have Aoba to blame for Sasuke's defection in Part 1, lmao.

Edit: Don't take the last sentence too seriously btw. Like I know that Sasuke would know Itachi's whereabouts & ends up defecting one way or another, especially how the Sound 4 will pay Sasuke a visit & give him the motivation later on, I'm just saying that Aoba pretty much kicked the rock that started the avalanche.

Aoba has a sharingan and bayukagon. We can see this in his jutsu between targeting weak points with his paralyzing needles. And with his fire ball proficiency and his crow jutsu. He keeps his eyes covered to hide this fact

Based on the shinden novels, Itachi developed the crow techniques with Shisui first as a substitution on his own before expanding it to genjutsu and summoning.
