During moments of high stress, our initial impulse is to react… fight or flight. But those immediate reactions can quickly lead to regret.
The key then, is to build distance between what triggers you and your response. It takes practice, but we can cultivate that space… one second (or millimeter) at a time.
When things get hot, I create space by finding a “home base…” an internal gesture that brings me back to center before I respond.
This is based on research by Victor Frankl, neurologist, holocaust survivor, and the author of "Man's Search for Meaning".
