I like the added ability they added back to this version where you can now use values to see how many people for example are left in a zone. Really helps when you need to know if anyone is in the home zone or not. Makes it easy to automatically arm and dis-arm a alarm helper for example. This was enabled in several versions of HA back but was took out again because of problems with it. Its now back in this version. There were work a rounds but they were clumsy at best and didn't always work well.

My goto channel to check what's new In home assistant. Great video. Groups in UI is great. Now ill finally stop being lazy and update my light group when I have new lights.

As a complete novice, I've managed to get HA on a Pi4 up and running with my devices, ZigBee, WiFi, etc. It's been an uphill struggle at times. I'm still not 100% happy and have a few issues, so anything that makes life easier and makes HA more user friendly is for me very welcome.

Thanks Mark, great summary as usual. Switch for X I have been wanting for ages and Groups in UI is super cool. They are a bit clunky in the UI for some of the new helpers fields but I am sure they will iron it all out in the coming updates.

Groups in the UI!... but not People Groups :/

My favorite feature is the Switch as X helper. I really want them to add distance units to the adjusting feature.. I hate having my car's Odometer showing in km... Miles please!

With the timers carrying on after a power cycle do they just carry on counting from where they were or do they work out where they should be based on timer start time or something like that?

Great to see HA evolving and thanks for the update video :D

3am started the update, had groups & switch X all working beautifully. Grr .. arrrrgh then spent half the day fixing it.
The ZHA caused issues, such as long press not working on Tradfri remote.
Oh well, expecting to enjoy it soon enough.

The unit change is cool. Do you know if the timer persistence also works with delays in automations? Not a huge issue as I am guessing just working around using delays and creating timers instead of the delay would achieve the same thing.

Thanks Mark, love your videos.... Here is a suggestion for a next video : UPS for Pi based HomeAssistant.

Now that we are moving to cell battery powered ZigBee sensors everywhere thanks to the Aqara range, and sophisticated alarm system using HA automation, battery powered siren such as Zigbee Neo alarm (a top choice, I got 2), the Sonoff coordinator powered directly from the Pi USB port, in case of power grid blackout (or thief turning-off mains at external switch board), a Pi UPS is essential to retain essential security capability.

I added an Aqara Motion sensor next to the external mains switch to detect unauthorized presence but need power to process any automation algorithm to confirm rogue action. Btw, I am scratching my head on how to add an Aqara contact door sensor in mains power box or letter box that are made in metal as Zigbee signal does not get out/in. Also, quite problematic to use an aqara motion sensor at entrance porche to detect rogue presence as it will trigger when clouds do change the brightness suddendly, or when a car passes 20 meters away also changing the brightness. I have not yet been able to figure out a way to set a condition on ambiant brightness.... would need aqara to add some smarter logic in the motion sensor using the light sensor to solve this issue.

Groups in the UI bonus yes but they aren't groups anymore, just an entity😒. Can't be expanded to see what's in the group and you will have to update tour automations (in node red at least). On the plus side they can have a "device class"

Switch as x is great but not one of the reviews has mentioned it will completely confuse Alexa

You can change Pressure units as well.

Can any of these new features merge two devices to create one garage entity?

I have a zooz zen17 and a ecolink tilt sensor. Would like to merge them into one device so I can operate the door and know it’s door status.

Also be able to move that device into HomeKit and google home

Mark, I'm curious your thoughts on how much this release seems to scales back on YAML support. I don't mind more stuff being in the UI, but a lot of YAML configuration seems to be deprecated. Given how advanced my setup has become, not having YAML to manage changes would be at best cumbersome. I know that there's been lots of discussion on scaling back on YAML for a while. Any thoughts on this release from that perspective?

Still digging deep into yaml so not too excited about the UI features, but still cool stuff nevertheless.
Love how HA evolves.
Thanks to Mark Watt we're always informed. Keep on the good work, this is great 😀

Hi Mark have been subscribed ever since your very first video and have learnt so much from your tutorials is there any chance of doing a tutorial on how to up date Z2M to the latest?

I may finally just start migrating my automations out of node-red.

Hello Mark. This is all well and good but what if you can’t get past the preparing Home Assistant page on browser? I’ve tried everything even contacting the founder. I wouldn’t usually do this on a YouTube presentation but I’m stumped. Raspberry pi4. Tried 2 x pi4 plus SSD and Micro SD. Tried image from Hassio site and link in Raspberry Pi imager. I’ve had a working instance in the past but after moving home and 4 months off the platform I’ve been confused as to why I can’t get a working instance. I’ve never been able in the past to get Tuya V2 working either. I’ve followed the steps to the letter but no devices show up in Tuya iot cloud. I’m not sure if I’m just unlucky or just stupid but I think the basics should be a bit more reliable at the start before moving on to polishing the turd. Sorry to be negative and I hope my comments help others. Mark, I know this has nothing to do with you but you seem a pretty smart guy. Thank you for listening.

Do the update entities work for tasmota integration devices?
