That tip certainly works especially with beans. Using intensive planting in an area approximately 4'x4' I harvested 20 lbs of yellow bush beans this summer. The type I planted are roc d'or a heirloom variety from France and they can handle the heat better than most. Worth a try also if you have a surplus you can ferment them similar to dill pickles you should give it a try!
