The gun barrel method was extremely inefficient due to the operation method as well as the geometry of the explosive. The implosion method was extremely efficient due to the operation and extremely precise detonation method, it also lowered the critical mass threshold much lower and allowed the tamper to give the explosion just a sliver more time, since these explosions were super critical these rates of explosion were exponentially growing making even a sliver of time huge in the ratio of explosive power
