Our documentary Karen Carpenter: Starving for Perfection DVD & Blu-ray is NOW AVAILABLE to order! It contains 200 minutes of exclusive interviews and extras.

Residents in the US, UK, and Germany can find the documentary on Amazon Prime Video.

She was the first in a long line of celebrities to suffer from an eating disorder during an era when the vastly misunderstood phenomenon brought shame and public humiliation.

For the first time, we hear Karen Carpenter’s personal struggle in her own voice through never-before-released recordings—and through the legendary voices of those who knew her and were inspired by her music.

As the #1 American musical act of the 1970s, the Carpenters were on “Top of the World,” producing a string of pop masterpieces, including “Close to You,” “We’ve Only Just Begun,” and “Rainy Days and Mondays.” But behind closed doors, Karen’s quest for perfection resulted in low self-esteem, a disheartening love life, and a public battle with anorexia nervosa, which resulted in her untimely death at the age of only 32.

Karen Carpenter: Starving for Perfection is a captivating, revealing, and unvarnished documentary providing astounding new insight into the singer’s tragically short life and enduring musical legacy.

It wasn’t just her voice, she was an incredible drummer. In fact, she always considered herself a drummer who sang.

When they all are just saying “that voice”. It’s so true. She was so beautiful, and the voice of an angel. I wish she could see the beauty of herself.

I will never forget hearing of her death. I was driving in my car listening to the radio and the announcement came on. I had to pull over. I just sat there and cried so hard. I played the vinyl Close to You so much back then that it skipped. Her voice was like velvet. It enveloped you like a warm blanket on a bitter cold day. It makes me sad to this day to think of her and how much emotional pain she was in. There is nothing in this world more important than addressing mental health disorders of any kind and catching them early on so they can be treated.

I am no singer, but man oh man, KC was amazing. No one will ever sound like her. She had a unique singing voice that cannot be replicated and I still listen to the Carpenters to this day.

I was fortunate to see The Carpenters perform live at The London Palladium in 1976. I’ve always been a fan and always will be. Karen had the most beautiful female voice of all time in my opinion. She sadly suffered and her life was short but she left a beautiful legacy in the World. ❤

Karen Carpenter is on my short list of people I want to see when it’s my time to go. I want to tell her that she has my favorite voice and has brought me a lifetime of beauty through her music. I could listen to her every day

Karen was a vulnerable person. It's often impossible to silence the negativity that gets ingrained in a child's head by their early caregivers. There any many different ways to tell a child, 'You don’t measure up and you never will'. And all of them are destructive in the long run.

Not Only did Karen have a Singular Voice, I Always thought she was BEAUTIFUL and I believe her "Demons" Were internal in that She felt Less Than Richard which was reinforced by her Mother and her Favoring HIM as THE Talent in the family and the Favored Child..I believe THIS is where her Insecurities were, SOO Deep within and Starving herself gave her a False sense of Control! SOO BLESSED to have her Music to enjoy EVERYDAY!!!

There is a melancholy beauty to her golden voice that is so unique and breathtaking. Just nothing like it. RIP, Karen.
