To your point at 3:40 —it’s true, MS always owned Halo. The difference with 1-3 is that Bungie employees pushed back HARD on MS for vision and direction of the games. When we had Marty on the podcast, he said the first time he played the piano music for Halo 3 trailer for the MS execs, they laughed at him and said no way.

The magic of OG Halo is the rebellious pirate crew of OG Bungie devs who were passionate and ready to fight for every detail, even at risk of losing their jobs.

Once that crew was fired or dispersed, we got Halo 4…and yeah, we know how that turned out

100% correct on the maturity. If they clean it up to something more like Infinite, it will ruin a key vibe of the game.

Prediction:
It’ll be a “modernized” Halo CE Remake without vehicle boarding and dual wielding.

“But the original CE didn’t have it!”

Meanwhile they’ll keep the energy sword, grappling hook, clamber, sprint, ground pound, and thruster packs. Splitscreen will still be absent and they’ll once again attempt to appeal to a “broader audience” by making it open world.

The Recipe to a Great Halo Game:

1.0 Campaign:
1.1 A strong new storyline, while catering to original story ideas (religious war, fight for humanity, military, mystery, adventure, heroism).
1.2 Meaningful characters (strong, meaningful characters who don't play into a DEI agenda, we had strong character diversity under the Bungie reign without forcing it (Johnson, Miranda Keyes)).
1.3 Epic campaign marketing (commercials, mt dew, potato chips, energy drinks, etc.)

2.0 Social:
2.1 Allow players to interact with each other again, making friends and enemies is all part of the multiplayer experience.
2.2 Return to pre/post game lobbies.
2.3 File share at launch.
2.4 Community based grinding/play (shown in it's 'skeleton' form in Halo 5 w/Achilles grind.).

3.0 Gameplay:
3.1 Halo Infinite almost nailed this. Back to the roots with modern mechanics, respect original ideas.

4.0 Multiplayer:
4.1 Strong ranking system, bring back number based system. Halo 3 nailed this with 1-50 per playlist.
4.2 Progression XP ranking system with rewards with military style ranks. Again, Halo 3 nailed this.
4.3 Ranked Playlist (BR Starts) -> 4v4 slayer -> 2v2 Doubles -> 1v1 Singles -> Hardcore (MLG).
4.4 Social Playlist -> All fun/social game modes.
4.5 Veto System.
4.6 Again, pre/post game lobbies.

5.0 Customization:
5.1 Halo: Reach but on steroids and a clean diet.

6.0 Forge:
6.1 Updated forge.
6.2 Pay map creators.

With how well Doom (a game made in the 90’s) has managed to modernize and succeed makes me wish they handled Halo

To see cut content restored would be great, but not just assests but the fleshed out levels that we should've had due to limitations / timeframe.

Friend telling me “you gotta play halo, one player drives while the other mans the gunner” was definitely an early halo memory of mine as well.

It’ll be a Halo CE game with aim down sights and sprint.
Also it’ll retcon the bungie story entirely.
They’ll use this as their opportunity to finally detach themselves from the bungie legacy. They’ll release it on PlayStation and finally they’ll have only a 343 game be what most people know to be halo.

Also yes 343 is Microsoft which is why Microsoft never fired 343. It was literally headed by a Microsoft executive. Whatever they replaced it with would be another corporate Microsoft studio.
Also I always knew Halo belonged to Microsoft. But according to Marty, there was a high up Microsoft guy that protected Bungie and kept them from being corrupted by corporate influence.

They could make the flood levels super gory and it will dann near be a horror game, especially if it’s almost pitch black and you have to control how much of your flashlight you use

I still remember my first experience with CE. My dads friend came over to drink some beers but he brought his xbox for my bro and i and Halo was the game he had. My brother and i stayed up all night playing coop and exploring the multiplayer maps it was some of the most fun I've ever had.

Well because the story, theme, and style of Combat Evolved has already been established, the remake can really only be about graphics. One reason they probably wont succeed is because the BLAM! engine's physics are completely different than Unreal's physics. Also because photo-realistic Flood is going to look like glowing plastic.

The toughest thing is that they have to keep the old fans happy while trying to be innovative and attract new players. Best case scenario they release a game that's not half cooked and doesn't need 1-3 years to actually be a playable game.

Give Johnson a bigger part in CE since he was just an unnamed character. Already a super simple thing to add.

I'd rather see a franchise reboot like Modern Warfare 2019. Where they tell an original story but hits similar beats as CoD4.

I wouldn't be mad if a CE remake included newer elements that were inspired by Reach, so my hot take is that sprint wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me. Having a few of the armor abilities and an AR that isn't useless would be decent updates to the game imo.

Remaking a masterpiece is definitely doable - Capcom's remake of Resident Evil 4 is a perfect example. The issue is that this is 343i/Halo Studios/Microsoft we're talking about, and they may as well be the video game industry's equivalent to Warner Bros. I hate to say it, but I don't have faith in them to pull this off.
