China Reacts To Nancy Pelosi's Visit To Taiwan And It's BAD

"The Chinese government on Friday escalated its retaliatory response to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's controversial visit to Taiwan earlier this week by suspending diplomatic ties on a number of key fronts, including the climate crisis, and canceling military coordination agreements with the United States.

According to the Associated Press:

The measures, which come amid cratering relations between Beijing and Washington, are the latest in a promised series of steps intended to punish the U.S. for allowing the visit to the island it claims as its own territory, to be annexed by force if necessary. China on Thursday launched threatening military exercises in six zones just off Taiwan’s coasts that it says will run through Sunday.

Missiles have also been fired over Taiwan, defense officials told state media. China routinely opposes the self-governing island having its own contacts with foreign governments, but its response to the Pelosi visit has been unusually vociferous.

In addition to the suspension or cancellation of the high-level diplomatic channels, China's Foreign Ministry also announced unspecified sanctions against Pelosi and her immediate family as punishment for the "egregious provocation" which Chinese officials had adamantly warned against.

Love tyt but I wish they had hosts more informed, or interested in foreign policy and geopolitics. There’s nearly one hundred years of history to unpack between Taiwan and China that heavily informs the dance the Us has been doing for decades now. It’s not to say that there isn’t pressing domestic issues they cover well

Anyone that's been to Taiwan for any significant amount of time realizes how free & open it is as a democracy. The people are very friendly & open, & deserve to be defended from China.

The more powerful the nation, the more likely it will act like a spoiled brat.

I'm a resident of Taiwan. I don't think that the Taiwanese are scared, at all. People here have been living with these sort of threats for literally decades. This is *normal* here.

Is this one more severe? Yes. Do they think it will lead to anything? No.

If you "don't understand it" as you repeatedly say, maybe don't make a video about it.

I love how Brett acts like he’s an expert on Chinese foreign policy 🤣

I mean, China has no right to dictate who visits Taiwan. No matter how awful and repugnant our politicians might be, Taiwan makes all the shit that makes our phones work so it kinda makes sense to keep a good relationship with them and defend their government.

I have strange feeling TYT made similar video mocking Russia for pointlessly having soldiers line up at at the Ukrainian borders.

No, it's not "needless" to fire missiles at Taiwan, or send ships close to Taiwan or send an armada of planes flying toward Taiwan...IF your goal is to get the Taiwanese military USE to these tactics....to the point they no longer react to them....and then you strike for real. The flights that previously ALWAYS turned back...suddenly don't. The ships that always PRETENDED to be about to drop troop transports and send Chinese soldiers ashore....suddenly do it for real. And because you've gotten use to your enemy doing this as a drill....you hesitate for 10, or 15 or 30 minutes...or an hour or two hours....while people try to confirm that this ISN'T just a drill that some soldier or sailor has MISTAKEN for an attack....because the last thing you want to do is attack a Chinese ship and sink it...when all it is doing is conducting a drill. You can start an actual war that way. So the goal of China would be to create doubts and hesitation in the leadership circles of Taiwan...to give China just that extra bit of time to attack, to land troops, to launch swarms of missiles....and get no reaction from the they are use to everything being a drill.

WHO the hell is China to say who can and cannot visit Taiwan?

Please, China simply used this as an excuse to do what they wanted to do all along. If it wasn't Pelosi visiting Taiwan (which was totally unnecessary) they would've just found another excuse.

Folks at TYT should know that we in Taiwan are not freaking out like they're making it out to be. I'm in Taipei and it's a pretty chill, normal weekend for us.
I think there's also a subconscious urge to not want to give the authoritarians what they want, which is everyone shivering under their "glorious" "mighty" army.

Brett's geopolitical knowledge is not half bad compared to Ana and Cenk. His analysis of China is pretty much spot on.
